Location: Texas | I'm still truck shopping.... found one I really like but the goofball previous owner took their gooseneck ball out of the bed lol. The hole looks like it may have been one of those BW turnover ones. I think it's ok to just take it and have a new one put in without much effort? I'll see if I can get a pic...... |

Location: Kansas | I don't see why they would remove the hitch LOL.....you can just buy a new one, but I'd definitely speak with a shop and see if they can drill new holes into the frame for the bolts, I wouldn't want to use the same holes just incase. |

Location: Florida | Seriously, what a weirdo. Lol My dad had to take his out totally for some reason and they put it in with just an extra little plate around that and some welding. Didn't even cost him extra at the shop we use :) hopefully this will be as easy! Good luck. |

| Look at the ack tire and see if you can see b and w near the frame, they may have just taken out the ball if it was a reversible ball. We thought the same thing when I bought my truck, it wasn't until it was at the place to get a new hitch in it was noticed |

Location: If I ever get back to Oklahoma..... | I had a 2003 Dodge 2500 that the previous owner took the B&W turnover ball out of. My FIL bought me a new one and I he installed it. When I traded that pickup off I took it since the new one didn't have one in it. Plus it had sentimental value since my FIL had passed away. Weird yes, but it kept me from having to buy a new B&W. The trailer place here took the old one out and put it in my new pickup.

I'm not really sure what the hang up is.
New trucks do not come with Goose Neck connection and you have to pay to have them installed.
Why is it wrong to have to do the same with Used?

If I were to buy a new truck and needed the GN connection, I'd surely keep the hitch and save myself $400-$500 on a new one and just pay to have the one I already own installed |

you do realize you are buying a used truck????? don't you......??? and don't actually have to buy it?????
if so, then it's not the fellow that traded it in that's the goofball.....lol
and at least you have the holes drilled....should save you some in labor......
but since it's such a perplexing issue for you, i think the best advice you could get would be to not buy this truck and go find one that has the hitch already in.......

| I've heard of people taking them out and covering the holes. They do that so it doesn't bring down the value with wear and tear on the truck from pulling a gooseneck......not that it makes sense to me....but other peoples logic I guess. But as far as taking it completely out.....why bother. lol. |

Location: North Dakota | We are some of those "goofball" owners. When we traded off our Chevy, which we had installed a B&W on, the dealership told us we might as well take it out and keep it; they didn't want it because it wasn't factory installed. They would have just thrown the hitch away or given it to one of their associates. So we took it.
We ended up purchasing a Ford, which has a different B&W set up. The holes were already in the bed, which was nice because we were able to purchase a B&W for the Ford and install it ourselves; which took just a couple hours. We've NEVER had an issue with re-using the holes.
We were also able to sell the used B&W for good money and that money almost paid for the new B&W for the Ford.

Location: on a horse | Can't tell but is this a Ford? We just bought a new/used one also, and had the same thing Yes they are factory hitches and you should be able to call a supplier (we did) and get the new ball that you just pop in and get the hooks also. Cost about 400 |

Location: Roping pen | The safety chain U bolts that go into the 2 holes on either side of the ball hole are in the incorrect place. They will need redrilled to work properly. They need to be down "IN" the channel of box floor. This allows the U bolt to store below the top of the high part of the channel hence not "catching" on things sliding on the box floor. The BW gives you two places on either side of the ball for the U bolts to be installed. Appears the incorrect ones where chosen.
But other than that, a Ford BW hitch is real easy to put in. No special tools or skills needed.

This truck is less than a year old and now that I know a new BW hitch is almost 700 I'd probably have it moved over too if I was the kind of person that bought a new truck every year. That's not an issue, it was how the dealership handled it and left it as an afterthought that "oh by the way...we told you this truck was set up to haul but there's holes in it where we once told you there was something useful...". I'd never seen anyone do it before and was just curious if it would be weird or difficult to put something back in without having to do major welding or work or anything.
It's being taken care of. I think I'll go back to staying far far away now lol. |
