| I wanna buy my pro permit! I believe I have the horse to at least try some circuit rodeos. So say I have the horse to do at least decent how do I do the rest? I have been UPRA and CPRA rodeoing so I feel like I have the "rodeo" game face kind of on and my horse is seasoned. I know it is probably too late to start this year but maybe I could get my ducks in a row and start next season. The problem is I am young still in college and pay for everything myself. How do I go about trying to get a sponsor or two? I think I have a girl I could haul with so that would help with diesel, but still its expensive between feed, hay, shoes, diesel, entry fees, vets ect... I am doing fine now, but adding in more might be tough. Man if I could just get someone to sponsor me with a diesel card I would be good to go! HAHA! Seriously though I know someone on here can help me out. How do I start out? Walk into businesses? Send letters with picture? I am willing to work for it! |

Location: Colorado | Sponsors come to you. Typically you can't get sponsors by asking. They spend their money in hopes for gain. And Pro Rodeos are nothing like anything else. Its a whole new ball game. I filled my permit in two rodeo. Was second in the first and won the second. Then I stopped entering. It really all depends on what you want to do about your rookie year. I quit because I didnt want to ruin my rookie year. It takes a special horse to handle pro rodeos.
Its not to late. The year started in October. You have until next October before it ends for this year. :)

Location: Texas | it's not too late. IMO you need to buy it now because you might need all year to fill your permit. It took me two years and a few horses before I got the mare that filled it for me.
The first year I tried I started on a horse who was good enough, but she fell at a barrel race (not a rodeo) and tore a ligament in her fetlock so she quit firing obviously. Finished that year on a 5 YO gelding but I knew he wasn't ready so in 2011 we stumbled upon Lucy.
She had put around $700 on it in the summer and then won a pro rodeo and won plenty enough to have filled it in one run. It would have worked out great because it counted for the 2012 season since it was Hempstead and it starts the year. but a week later my mare did something stupid in her stall and strained her suspensory ligament RIGHT AFTER I bought my rookie card, so my rookie year was toast.
You buy your permit and enter through procom. most of your slacks will be weekday mornings. And it's more likely you will pull slacks than perfs unless you buddy with a cardholder.
It takes a lot of money to go. your smaller added money rodeos will be $76-96 to enter and the larger added money rodeos will be 100-$200+ in fees.
I am not entering right now because I am in vet school and Lucy is pregnant. I have a coming 6 year old mare I hope will be nice enough. It takes a VERY special horse to win at the pro rodeos. |

| Thanks for the help so far! All the team ropers I know in the area have told me the opposite about sponsors lol they told me unless your Trevor Brazile they are going to come find you you have to go get them. I have done a lot of research as far as which rodeos are in my area how to enter them all that so I feel like I am trying! It is just hard to take that leap when the permit costs so much itself haha |

Location: Phoenix | Sponsors will come to you once your winnings speak for you. (Grammar? :/). Until then, you will have to show your sponsors why you need to represent them. I know people who amateur rodeo who do have sponsors....I'm not sure what they are getting....whether it's discounts or merch or what.
You could go about it like you're selling advertising space on your trailer. |

the permit's the cheapest thing you'll buy. I am pretty sure my card costs $350. and I didn't renew it in time so I have to pay a late fee. |
