not an answer to your question, but have a buddy who moved up to Homer, AK to work for an utility company and he says it is COLD up there. I cant imagine doing much riding.
Unless it is a standard, don't know how you can compare times since patterns are different in different arenas. Did you google barrel racing in Alaska?
I'm from Alaska. The barrel racing is no different up there. The season may be shorter than down here but everything else is the same. Are you moving up there?
Maybe I need to move to Alaska...I only manage to get to about 4 races a year anyway so the shortened season would fit fine with my sad schedule, LOL!!!
I live in Alaska. We have all kinds up here, all abilities. We have a rider up here that was 3rd in top 20 at brn4d finals and 1D at Vegas Super show. There are no standard barrel patterns here.
My cousin lives in Palmer Alaska and went to a rodeo nearby, she said it was ridiculous how horrible the barrel racers were...very very slow. But that was just one show, I don't think there are as many horses and since it is so secluded probably not as competitive but I could be wrong. That is just one persons experience.
I am from Alaska and compete here. Kinda shocked me when I saw Alaska on here! We ride on the NBHA pattern. 15s winning times 1d, 16s 2d We have had riders go out of state and compete with the best and place close to them. Their is a wide range ability in riders here just like anywhere else. Season is shorter but their are some seriously tough competitors that could go out of state and be successful. Great little rodeo community if I do say so myself! Just had Marlene McRae and Ryan Lovendahl here this summer for clinics. Message me if you want some more info on arenas and such up here!
