| That was scary, wish the bull riders would wear helmets. Shout out to the bull fighters, great job getting the bull away from him.

I didn't see the bull hit until slow replay and someone yell he's out cold. Wish he would wear a helmet he is so accident prone. I don't think he'll ride tonight but I bet he will tomorrow. I know how that rung his bell. |

Location: WYOMING | Ive sat on one of those bulls IN THE CHUTE and that alone is terrifying!!! I can NOT imagine tying myself to one and turning it loose... but those boys are tough and thats "what they do".
Had a good friend that was a bull fighter when we were rodeoing.. he was a different breed all together. Very superstitious about how he prepared for the job. That there could be a reality show alone!!! |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | It sure looked to me like he lost consciousness. If he did, then I wouldn't let him ride for at least a week, regardless of MRI or CT findings. That's just me, though, and I am sure Dr Tandy is way more experienced than I am. In the NFL, he would be sidelined for a minimum of a week, I believe. |

Health wise yes he should probably be out but, the cowboys have no coaches or contracts. This is the biggest rodeo of the year for them and a way to finally get them in the black after hauling all year. |

Do they have to get medical clearance to continue or is the decision theirs to make? As a mother I would have a very difficult time watching my son ride after an injury like that. I would probably hog tie him & lock him in the closet of his hotel room and take the butt chewing later. |

Someone will know more than I do but no I don't think they have to get medical clearance since they are their own "boss" as you might say. |

I feel sorry for that steer wrestler too. He shredded his knee & was told he couldn't damage it anymore than he already has so he's going to finish out the week & then repair it after. I know it's the super bowl of rodeo but I'd prefer my child remember my name when he's in his 40's & be able to walk without pain. |

Location: Texas | This goes back to one of my favorite sayings "when you are dumb you better be tough". I totally get that it is a dangerous sport and injuries are inevitable but unless you are going to lose the world by missing one ride I would sit at least one round out. But to each their own as they have to pay the ultimate price for their decisions. I do not mean to be ugly and it is not my place to judge his actions. I am just glad he is ok. |

Location: Bastrop, Texas | I'm sure he will have to sign a waiver of liability. That way if he wants to ride and he ends up in a nursing home neither he nor his family can hold the PRCA liable. We know a lot more about traumatic brain injury now than we did even 20 years ago, when we operated under the assumption that if you are feeling fine 24 hours following a concussion, you are out of the woods. Of course, we have to figure out a way to pay for his nursing home expenses until he dies.

I would make him sign another one that is specific for this injury. Those waivers aren't bulletproof. |

There was a senior that went to a neighboring school that suffered a concussion playing football, sat out a few games & then begged his parents & coaches to play the last game. They took him to their family Dr & he passed the test he put him through so he was cleared to play. He played his last game in life that night & some poor kid is suffering from depression thinking that his tackle was what killed him not the hidden effects of the concussion from a few weeks earlier. Come to find out he lied to his parents, coach & Dr. about his recurring headaches, dizziness & blurred vision. They found several bottles of ibuprofen in his car & locker. Not worth it as far as I'm concerned. |

Dr. Tandy knows his stuff. He will/or has discussed the Good , Bad , and Ugly with Steve. Or anyone else who is hurt.
Dr. Tandy has built a network of the best trauma and sports Docs in the country. The computer system they use to track injuries has been ten years ahead of the game for a long time. The Healer program has come along way in 20+ years thanks to Dr. Tandy.
But, you can always contact Dr. T and the Commish and discuss your concerns. karen |

| It is his choice to ride or not tonight. Not Dr. Freeman's. Doc can advise him (and will/has) but it his choice. No, he will not have to sign an additional waiver. That is done with your membership agreement each year. |

I'm sure you are right about that. I do know that if he lost consciousness, his risk is definitely higher, and I'm sure Steve Wolsey has been advised. He may not have to sign a waiver, but I'm almost positive the conversation and advice will be well documented. That's all a person can do. |
