Location: snowbelt, WA | How do you stay motivated to still lose weight? How do you not get depressed when your horse is hurt and you don't know for how long? With my current vet bills and job I don't really have the money for another one yet. I am saving but it is depressing to look even. How do you stay motivated because I am struggling right now. |

Location: Blissfully happy Giants fan!!! | At one point this year I had 4 horses on the property and none of them were ridable. Three with vet bills. Right now I have one on vacation, one at rehab, one on vacation while getting better (injection and supplement we want to kick in before we ride again), and one a permanent cripple. Thankfully I have one I am legging up to sell but I can't run him quite yet (I may try next weekend though).
When I have all of my horses go down at once it makes me seriously question things. And that is hard. But I always remember that everything happens for a reason and everything changes always. It will pass. I focus on other things (right now with the holidays and a merger at my company that is helping to keep me busy) and throw my time into that. I look to find ways to keep my horses feeling and doing better. I plan on what I want to get done when I get them back.
I think reading is under-rated and finding books that motivate you is something definitely to be taken into consideration. You don't need to read a self help book but things that inspire you are always great. My go-to book to get me in the mood to accomplish something is Seabiscuit. I just love that book. My copy is on loan to the 14 year old that rides with me. I may need to go buy another copy.
Anyways, I hope this helps. I think we all have been through a period of being down for the count so just hang in there! |

Location: Texas | It is hard but you just have to find something to help you stay positive. When my #1 horse was recovering from a suspensory injury I almost obsessed over watching her runs on film… Trying to get myself thinking of us coming back some day. She's in foal right now so when I get down in the dumps about missing her, I watch the videos again and it gets me pumped up.
With my 5 year old, I've been keeping up with her 3 year old sister at the BFA. My 5 YO had surgery in early October and I just started riding her this week. She feels GREAT and her sister has won over $36,000 in two days, so I am pumped all the way around about my horse again. I know if she comes back the way she was before she got hurt, I will have a super nice mare again.

| It's super hard to stay motivated, but you just HAVE to make yourself do it. After two weeks of consistently doing something (in this case, working out) it becomes a habit. If you happen to skip a day or two don't get down on yourself, it happens to the best of us! Just get back up the next day and work twice as hard. I sold my best horse about a year ago and I probably gained at least 15 lbs from it. Still trying to lose that plus another 15+ lbs.
Another thing that helps me to stay motivated and to keep my hopes up is to go onto Pinterest and look at the quotes. If they're good and I can relate to them I save it and look back on it when I'm having a bad day. |
