personally I'd pull the shoes, or else spray the sole of the hoof with pam cooking spray

I grew up in Michigan, so I feel your pain. Copious amounts of vaseline can help, but the best bet is to put pads on or pull the shoes and use a boot. Man, I don't miss that! Riding in snowsuits, ice balls on the feet, frozen water...nope, no thanks. I'll stay in the south!

Never tried it in the snow...but in the summer I've used WD40 and it works wonders!

Pull shoes.  Or get your shoer to apply pads next time.

I've heard wd40 depletes their magnesium level I think!

It must be fairly warm where you are?  That's mainly when I have the most trouble with snow sticking.  When its colder and you keep them moving it'll fall out on its own.

They make snow pads, otherwise barefoot is the way to go in snow (unless your horse's feet will chip or break apart without them)

Pull shoes. I pulled Cash's a few weeks ago. Had the farrier out to touch up my trim. He wanted to put shoes back on and i said no way. I'm also a whimp in the cold. So i won't be riding much. And if i do, i ride in the cinder hills. At the very least, i wont be picking feet ten times a day..

I have to keep shoes on my mare.  I have tried everything.  Last reset I had my farrier put razed pads in the front.  They are working really well.  She even balled up in the pasture.  We have a lot of the snow that is great to make snowballs and snowmen.
