Location: NC | I had thought paypal was the safest way to recieve or send payments, only problem with it was 1) the charge and 2) how long it takes a payment to clear.
But I have had two fishy sounding emails where people want to send me payment for my (in this case Motorcycle and then horetrailer) through paypal and they will send a shipper to pick up.... I just found it to fishy to not want to come see these sort of purchases in person (not like you can get a vet check on a motorcycle or horsetrailer) and wrote them off as scam. Is there a way for people to screw you with paypal? |

they can contest the sale and then paypal will take your money back out of your account. My husband sold something on ebay, and it took him a very long time to get the money because they will wait to give it to you for a specified amount of time. He refuses to accept paypal for anything. |

Smaller less expensive items can be safelty paid for using a US postal service money order, no other type of money order or check. To get a postal service money order a person has to give the post office cash, you can't get a postal service money order using a check or credit card.

Location: Arkansas | I accepted paypal for a dog that I sold. The lady sent me pictures picking up the pup at the airport and emails about how much she loved Lucy, etcs. Then, 5 months later I get a dispute from paypal that her CC company is disputing it. I contact her she says that her cards have been stolen and her company is disputing everything but she will take care of it. I also sent the shipping numbers and other numbers that paypal wanted/needed for proof of the purchase. But, paypal awarded her the money back (5 MONTHS LATER!!!!).. They took it from my account and the lady suddenly went out of country on vacation. It was very disheartening. |

I had a similar situation happen with a saddle... sold it, they loved it, had it for over a month... then started emailing that the saddle was damaged and wanted a refund... over a month of back and fourths... paypal took what money i had in my account and left me with an negative $800 balance... meanwhile they rode in the saddle up until the day they finally shipped it back to me. (saw pics on FB) ...
very frustrating and i refuse to use paypal to buy or sell ever again.
Money Orders and Wire Transfers only. |

| Now talk to your bank on removing paypal access to your acct ... most will tell you that paypal has to make the request to be removed from your acct ...
This is a banks typical response for other electronic transfers you have allowed to happen with your utilities or other bill paying ....
I know of only two ways to get rid of paypal from your acct .... get a new acct number at same bank if they let you .... or change banks ..
It is my understanding that obamacare and the IRS is going to use paypal for obamacare premiums or fines if you do not join up ... they want their money now instead of waiting on payroll deductions to do the dirty deed ... |

Location: WI | Yeah, I've never had a problem with it. But, a coworker of mine's wife buys/sells a lot on ebay and has gotten screwed a few times. Paypal always sides with the buyer and will refund them money, but there is no follow up to see if the item ever gets shipped back... |

Location: Missouri | The language they use is another big factor. Don't always cross someone off that is having a shipper arranged. Much like shipping a horse, there are people that have cars/boats/trucks/equipment/etc shipped all the time. My SO's uncle is a shipper and makes several trips a month from the East Coast to the Midwest hauling these items. A friend of mine also bought a horse trailer from Virginia and had it shipped here site unseen. |

Location: Frogsboro, NC | I had the same thing happen with a saddle. Brand new saddle too still in orginial box. Lady paid on paypal, shipped saddle and month later disputed it and left me with the bill. I was told to take her to small claims court by paypal to get my money back. Address was in Hawaii so with me being in NC that would be useless I know I would have been out more money. |

DANG that stinks!!! So really PayPal is best for sending money, but not receiving it? |

Location: Texas | Ugh paypal!!! So upset with them!!!! I paid for a saddle a few months ago and after changing bank accounts, they charged to to old account which has no money in it!! Which is why I removed it and added my new one before the purchase.
I don't know it had done this, two weeks later I get a call from a collection agency demanding payment!
So I figure out it has to be paypals mess up, I call paypal and the lady says oh yes sorry ma'am I'll fix it......, okay it's fixed your refunded and we Wil charge to the other account.
A week later I call my old bank to follow up and no refund! PayPal didn't even put in a claim. So I filed a claim against paypal with the debt collections an finally they refunded!! I don't think I'll ever use PayPal again! |

Location: Qld Australia | Just a side note - scammers are getting better. I had one make initial contact and the email sounded ligit!! Most of the time they are so phoney I always wonder how anyone gets done. It wasn't until the third email that I thought - this is a scam. I went with it to see where it would lead and she finally said she would pay with PayPal as it is the safest method. I replied with nothing but - bank deposit only - as the email. I never heard back from her at all.
So scammers obviously know that they can dispute any time they want and get money. I always though PayPal was the best invention as it allows me to purchase from the States as otherwise most stores I can't, and it gave me a feeling of security, but now I am just not sure anymore. |

Location: South MS | I had posted long ago that paypal is not a secure site (as they advertise). I had used paypal for someone to purchase a Caldwell from me.........when I moved my money from paypal to my bank account, my account was hacked. I had a LOT of money taken out of my account - luckily for me, I have a great bank. Next day, I disputed the false charges to my account and had it all put back in - closed that account. Contacting paypal was useless. After literally a month of trying to get someone from paypal (that could speak English), finally got someone and had to go round and round to close the paypal account. It was a nightmare. |

Location: Texas | It could of been a simple oppsie. I didn't like the fact they told me it was resolved, and they never resolved it; until I took legal action! Scary! |

| Simple personal checks are still the best avenue ... After receiving down payment or entire payment you can call the other bank and see if acct is real and if there is enough money in it to cover the check .... and then make copies and deposit the check into your bank acct ...
I will take personal checks over any other kind of papered money document transfers ... ... THIS IS THE BEST ... >>> direct bank to bank transfers using my banks "safe" acct when the money is transferred ... and no charges for doing this!!
Your bank and other banks should be as fast as Walmart and other businesses that swipe your check... which removes funds from your acct and give your check back to you right there within seconds ........ banks make lots of money kiting our checks for 10+++ days before we can use the funds ...
Eventually you younger folks will learn NOT TO ALLOW ANY ELECTRONIC BILL PAYING OR PAYPAL INTO YOUR ACCTS ... |

| I just sold a saddle on Ebay and I have to wait 3 weeks to get my money. Paypal holding the money must be a fairly new thing. I sold things a couple of years ago and got the money right away. |

Location: Centerville, TN | The last time I used my debit card was on PayPal and my number was stolen. My card was used in Atlanta, Germany, France and other places. I will never use PayPal again. Still haven't gotten my money back, don't know if I ever will. And here it is close to Christmas and I don't get another pay check till the end of the month. |

| To do email money transfers both party's need to be registered for online banking at there own bank.
You basically go into your bank acct online and do a transfer...much like paying bills online...then an email is automatically sent to whatever email you have entered for it to go to and that person clicks on a link in the email that takes them to there online bank where they login and follow the prompts...they have to enter a password that you sent them in a separate communication.
When they have done this the $$ are instantly deposited to that acct.
I was skeptical at first as well but having received $$ that way this past week it is easy and seams really safe!
I talked to my bank and they said it is no different then doing a wire transfer as far as safety goes!
I never thought to ask them about disputed items! |
