Location: lost in missouri | THANK YOU EVERYBODY THAT HELPED, and special thanks to GAIL. A little over a year ago I got rear ended by an 18 yr texting and driving. I was sitting at a dead stop, he hit me at 60+mph. It totalled my 3/4 ton truck and to this day i know had i been in anything else I would be dead. I had 8 months of pain and finally the doctors and surgeons figured out what needed to be done to help me. It will be a year December 20 since I had surgery on my back. In May of this year I got back in the saddle. I got a really nice pleasure bred gelding and bred my running mare. That gelding has been my savior of getting me back in the saddle. He is so calm and careful. I feel that once my mare foals I am ready to get back on her. So last year I got the name Spurring My Saddle Stand because that was all i could do as i had a brand new saddle sitting on that saddle stand that I had never got to use when the wreck happened. I have been careful on saying to much of where i felt i was at in my riding but I am confident I think i m done spurring that saddle stand.

My suggestion would be, in my best Aerosmith voice, I'm back in the saddle again. If I think of any more I'll add in.
I'm glad you're on the mend. |

Location: lost in missouri | I tell u once i got back in the saddle my mind cleared, my humor came back, everyone at work said i had the light back in my eyes. I felt whole again. I tell everybody it is not a hobby to me it is a lifestyle. The best part was everything seemed to stretch back out and I couldnt believe how much more it helped me than physical therapy with a therapist. I can tell now when i go a few days without riding. I try to swim on the days when i cant ride. Luckily there are some hotels in our area that allow u to pay so much a month to come in and swim. |

I got mine cause someone was asking questions about a new saddle and i blurted out all i could do was ride my saddle stand. I know that it takes that certain thread that one hair brain comment and they have their fun. I just needed to voice my sudden revalition today that I m one week away from my surgery and what a year I had and it dawned on me hey that dont fit no more and I wanna celebrate cause at the time it was given to me no one knew where this was heading. |

I was on my horse twice before dr clearance and haven't been on since I got clearance (although I doubt my surgeon would feel very comfortable with me riding at this point) and I WANT TO RIDE. My saving grace is the fact that I live in freakin' Canada and it's the middle of winter. |

The thing that kept me out of trouble and able to give myself the healing time was having the surgery in December and it snowed the day of my surgery and it seemed like every other day afterwards. that helped but once spring broke i had to pace myself. Hope you continue to heal correctly and can get back at it once Canada thaws. |

Well, first of all, that's an amazing story and I'm so glad you have healed and can ride again! Second, I completely understand everything in that paragraph. I literally have to ride or else my mind just goes. I get depressed, restless, and just don't feel alive. I've gone through a couple periods where I couldn't ride for over a year at a time and it killed me. I also have absolutely horrible neck/back pain and no doctor can figure out how to control it. The ONLY time I am not in excruciating pain is when I ride, because I'm so focused on the horse, my mind can finally block it out. Once again, so happy for you and glad you got a new, more fitting name!
sidenote-my name doesn't fit anymore either. I quit the red bull. The energy drink addiction is over. |

| Congratulations to you on your perserverance and success on riding again. I love to hear stories of people and their "never give up attitudes". I hope you are able to get back right to where you were before your accident. God Bless.
I've never understood the "name" thing, some people get names and re-names, others never get a name at all. Not sure what the criteria for getting one is, but I like the one they gave you, you have every right to be proud of it.
