Location: Texas | Looking for a new saddle it's narrowed down to these two.
I have a petite narrower mare and a stocky calf horse built colt.
Tired if bad fitting saddles, I sold all my saddles an investing in one good one!
Will be trying both of these saddles on my horses but would like outside opinions on fit, quality, ride, ect

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Yept I'm with NTO, you have two horses that are built very different from one another. And sounds like you will need two saddles. I have never had a Molly Powell, but do have Double J's and Crown C and like these. |

Location: Central TX | I have actually had both. I used to have a molly powell but now i have 3 double j pozzi's. I like my double J's a bit more but i really didnt mind the molly powell at all...Sits you deep...fit my huge cowhorse and my dash ta fame mare equally...and its way cheaper than the 5k pozzi's. I love my pozzi's but i don't not like the MP's |

| If you are looking at the Molly Powell that is now made by Circle Y, I would stay away. Those saddles are not near as nice as the older ones. The seats do run small in the Molly Powell also. |

I agree a well fitting saddle should fit nearly everything with the correct pads for that horse. So I'm going to keep my options open in that department.

| you are looking at two different saddles that couldn't be made more different, i would ride in them both first, but i would pick the Double J hands down, they are made better, i like that they have a deeper seat. |

| Tucker saddles owns circle y and reinsman, so both companies are owned by the same. From what the Vice President told me last year was there were not going to be any changes to the reinsman product. |

Nope, haven't ever looked at a reinsman, that's just what the vp told me when I met him last year.
I do have 2 circle y, and honestly the quality isn't that bad, one is 4 years old, the other is just over a year, both look like they are in new condition.

| If you horse is level, I really like the MP, but if your horse throws you forward at all, go with the Double J. The MP fit my horse really really well, but he runs downhill, and I actually fell off going around the 3rd barrel with the MP.....first time in my life to fall off going around a barrela nd I hope it's my last!!! My seat size was snug, and that could have been a big part of the problem |

" Believe it or not: double j is made in the same warehouse and by the same people as circle y. They are all made in the same place but oiled and different looks are put on them. In my opinion circle y has much more put into their saddles for thickness of leather. Doubled j is a blinged out version of circle y in a thinner product and triple the cost. (friend of mine lives across the street and worked there part time)" |

The saddle is for you, what I would suggest is let us know your riding style, what you like and dislike in saddles, and your price range.
Then I would suggest getting the saddle to fit your wider horse perfectly, then use shims to make the saddle fit your other horse.
I have a friend that duct taped felt/foam on the bottom of her double j so it fit her horse. This is an option. |

My Marlene by Cactus...love it! I have a really hard to fit mare and it fits her, perfect probably not but the best anything else has and I've tried everything. I've also had it on several other horses that are shapped differently and have fit them. It hold you in, but lets you get up, from the day I opened the box it felt like I'd rode in it a 100x love it, and will own another!

Across the street from where and who is your friend? Have you ever been to Double J?
I'm not the one with the friend. If you re-read my post, you'll see that I said I had a saddle discussion on FB last night and someone had posted that. Who knows if its true, maybe someone on here can confirm.
IMO, the price of the Double Js isn't worth the quality you get. I was shopping for a new Pozzi but have decided to go with something else. |

I like a deep seat, taller horn, and fenders forward but ability to move my legs back if I need. The saddle I loved was a treeless and a older marlene. Treeless doesn't fit my big horse and Marlene made them both sore. Have a Tod Sloan and doesn't ride the way I like it it sends me to far forward.
I'm willing to spend around 2k .... I prefer used saddles. |

From the information you have given I would suggest a crown c. The reasoning is the crowns have the forward positioned horn, the seat does feel secure, they do keep you centered and square. The stirrups are not forward hung though, and not much movement in the stirrups. I would suggest getting your bigger horse fitted, my normal looking horse is a 9 inch gullet, my big shouldered one is and 11 inch. New you can custom order one for 2500 and under.
The circle y Lisa Lockhart are supposed to be mimicked after the Marlene, some say they are completely different. I have a Lisa it doesn't set me forward, but sometimes I have a hard time getting out. There is a lot of freedom in the stirrups, but speaking this year with the maker of this saddle, they will custom the stirrups to make them forward hung.
Another saddle maybe to look at is one with the buster welsh tree, I know billy cook has one, I loved the saddle but it only fit narrow horses, IMO it kept you centered never tipped me forward, had a nice deep seat.

Have you considered a Martha Josey? They meet all your "wants" as far as deep seat, tall horn, and forward fenders. I know they are made by Circle Y, but I have one that I bought brand new in 2002 and it has been really great. I have a Crown C but the Martha Josey is still my favorite. I can't say it'll fit everything, but I have rode 25-30 horses over the last 10 years and it has fit quite a lot of horses. If you want to avoid the newer Circle Ys I understand, but maybe consider one of those older Joseys. You can find them anywhere from $500-1200. . . Fancier ones being more expensive, of course.
I am saddle shopping for a new horse that is really easy to ride into the turn, but coming out she pitches me backwards. I was going to go with a Pozzi but after learning some stuff last night, I think I am going to go with something else. I would buy another Crown C in a heartbeat, but it just doesn't work on the mare I need a new saddle for. A Martin dealer did tell me last night that Martin is coming out with a new Crown C version that sits deeper but is flat like a cutter. They aren't out yet, but you can order them. I am considering waiting out my saddle shopping until January, when she will have some in stock in her store. |

The owner of Double J is one of our customers. The owner of Double J use to work with Circle Y and he went off on his own to build a better quality saddle. Their new factory is huge and is just outside of town and they make all of their own trees there also.
Circle Y's factory is downtown in Yoakum and is no way connected with Double J.

I have 3 Double J saddles and I have been to their store/factor lots of times and belive me there is no Circle Y saddles being made there and like Kathy said Double j builds their own trees there. If you ever get a chance go by the Double J store/factor and get a tour of their room where they build the saddles pretty darn cool place. Double J is no part of Circle Y.
