Location: Riding Crackhead. | My daughter and I got sidetracked last night looking at old pictures and I scanned them in so I'll see if I can get them on here. Looking at some of these pictures I just can't help but think how lucky I was growing up to live like a little hillbilly child and playing with horses, calves, dogs and pigs all day. I tried to give my kids the same opportunity. Here's my kids through the years with who became my favorite horse in the world. She took on the name Baby when we got her at 6 months old and the name stuck to this day. She'll be 16 this year and had to be retired from running barrels quite a few years ago. No one flame me for allowing two small children to ride a 2 year old that they had saddled themselves and were so proud of a job well done.

Location: Missouri | Great idea! I don't have any pictures of me from early days (darn the bad luck NOT), but happen to have several of my daughter.
The pinto pony...she saved and saved her money from birthdays, Christmas, selling puppies. Finally she had what would probably be enough. "Mommy, I want a pony". Me: ok what kind? "A puddle pony". Me: ummmm ok, what's a puddle pony? From my 5 year old, with a look reserved for totally ignorant mothers..."A white pony with brown mud puddles splashed on him". Duh. And I found Puddles the pony! Had watched him at a sale, but passed because he was a two year old, broke to drive, supposedly broke to ride. Two days later I was at a friend's house - they had bought him. Seemed like fate. Yes, a 2 year old green pony for a 5 year old isn't ideal, but I loved his mind. She was sitting on him bareback while they shot fireworks. They sure learned a lot from each other over the years! She turned him into a showmanship and walk trot pony supreme..won high points, loved him to death. A little snot sometimes outside the arena, step in the gate, and he was automatic. Fast forward five years, she outgrew him, sold him for a very nice price to another family with little girls, and bought her rockstar, Cheater, a 16hh Easy Jet/Dry Doc bred roping horse who she has taken to rodeos all over the Midwest and even to AQHA World where she presented our country's colors on him. Pretty awesome for a then ten year old and a ranch horse! Puddles taught her to love horses and hang in there, Cheater has taught her to RIDE.

This is when I was 4 yrs old.

This picture isn't all that old (around 2006), but was back when I was doing the rodeo queen stuff.

This picture was maybe about 10 years ago, but love this picture of my gramps.

Location: Oregon | Here's one from one of my sister and my very first horse shows (I am in front). I believe it was 1998 or 1999 - only because the truck we are standing next to is a '99 that we got brand new late in '98. Batty was our first horse who would have been around 9 or 10 years old in the picture and lived until he was 21. We did everything possible to do on him including showing, gaming, cattle events, and everything involved in high school equestrian team. He NEVER had any sort of professional training, bud he won us countless buckles, money, tack and other awards.. Batty was a papered pure bred Arabian, and he was the only one who didn't know it... He thought he was a QH.

Griz - thank you! He is super handsome - that long white mane and tail gave me fits on show days! My fave was costume class - she warpainted him and dressed up Indian for a couple of years and also outfitted him in full native Arabian. At that age, I didn't care if she dressed him up like the Easter Bunny if it made her happy. Once they let her go into the actual Native Arabian class with the real ones so she could gallop him. Beautiful sight! |

She hasn't done the show circuit for years - went to rodeo queening (traveled 46 weekends first year, 38 or so the next) and ARHA shows. Yep...Puddles went to friends, so that made it a little easier. I still bawled and bawled. She hasn't done MOKAN, but may do high school next year. We'll see! She is working on her breakaway. |

He was the meanest pony, he would run me down barbed wire fences, run under low limbs and his favorite thing to do was to stop suddenly and throw his head up and give you a nice fat lip! After all that I still loved him. He also taught me how to read a horse and when they were fixing to do something naughty!! I miss him! Also a picture of us older :) Yes, it is the same pony!

He looked like he was a pistol,LOL And love the last picture
Yes he was!!! but he was fun to ride also. We didn't have a horse trailer so Mom would back the truck into a ditch and load him up in the back so I could haul him to a friends house to go ride!! I was always on the pony!! He has more miles on him than these Peterbilts on the roads! I would ride him thru the house...lol.. Mom was not thrilled...Oh the things I did with Spot I probably deserved a few of those fat lips!! haha
I will tell you this, the day I laid him to rest was the hardest thing I have ever done! I buried a part of my soul with him! He was the last thing I had from my childhood! |

That pic of your mom and uncle would put them on the same reservation in the same time frame as my dad when he was 16... Small world. |

Location: on my horse | Redman is completely obsessed with the stock tank heater, last winter he destroyed two floaters, two sinkers and a tank before we finally found one that fits into the bottom of the tank and sits low enough to make it hard for him to grab. That still doesn't stop him though, he will drive his whole head into the tank with water going into his ears just to grab the heater. Every winter he has little burns all over his nose and lips.
He has a jolly ball, other toys, a buddy, and an entire huge pasture to keep him busy but he still has to go for the the d*mn heater!
OOPS!!!! Wrong post lol

Is your uncle still living? My mom is, she is 80. Her maiden name was Sanders. |
