Location: Montana | I currently ride in a 14" after flopping around too long in a 15" because some calculator told me that was the size I ought to be. And now I'm looking at trying a 13.5" because a couple of people I know who are bigger than me ride in that size. I like a secure feeling when I'm in the saddle.  |

Location: Somewhere around here | It could just be what you prefer? For example, I ride in a 15" but I'm petite/average. I also have a 5" cantle just as a personal preference but I think if I had a 14" seat I would feel too trapped in.
Anyway, I'm guessing average seat sizes will be 14". Especially since some barrel saddles don't come in 15" unless you specifically order one. |

Location: NC | The average is 14 I believe. Most barrel racers are women & are petite women. Some prefer a smaller seat even if it really is too small too. Hubby rides a 14.5. I ride a 15.5 but could use a 16 but they're just not that popular. I like to be able to move though. And I don't like a high back or bear trap. 4 inch cantle works for me!

That is kind of funny, not in a ha-ha way because riding accidents are never funny. But this year I went to smaller saddle after a riding accident because I felt I would stay in better. To each their own, everybody knows how they like their own saddle to fit them. |

| I say it rally varies on the saddle. My size ranges are so random per saddle that I just NEED to ride the saddle first, but I said 15" because that's my "average." I tried a CJ record breaker that was a 14" and that was fine, same thing with a Marlene McRae. Then I tried a Crown C in a 14" and it was a bit small, but the 14.5" was just right. I have had a 15" Dakota that sat a bit tight, and just ordered a 16" Triple Creek. I have a 16" Martha Josey and it sits a bit roomy- a 15.5" would be perfect. For reference, I wear a size 12 jean and am 5'7" |
