My main horse has gotten part of his mane somehow rubbed out. I am really trying to get it to grow back out. Its about a 1 1/2 space. I really like to keep his mane nice. Does anyone know if there is any feed or something that I can do to him that will make it grow out faster?

Ugh. I feel your pain- my guy rubbed out a big chunk about 8 inches long right in the middle of his neck- it looks awful I started him on a pack of gelatin/day (Knox gelatin from the grocery store) as I've had good luck with that in the past, and Im keeping Herbal Essenses leave in conditioner in it, but other than that he's on his own. I hope it at least grows out enough to lay nicely by spring.

You could try MTG. That seems to be helping my boy's mane.

My paint horse's "roommate" got bored one day and chewed his tail off--short. I was worried when we went to the world show it would look bad. Platinum Performance has really made it grow out fast. His mane has really gotten long too.

707 Hoof Essentials. This picture was taken last winter, her mane is even longer now, and her tail has to be trimmed so it won't drag the ground.

I agree with using MTG . . . It works miracles as far as I'm concerned.  It smells like rancid bacon grease, but the horses don't seem to mind.  Several folks have posted on BHW that theor horses are irritated by it, but in more than 10 years I have not had a single problem with it.  I might test it on a small are and leave for a couple days before putting it on the entire crest.

Any hoof growth supplement ought to help grow mane and tail but I've found that 1 cup per day of ground flax works better for mane/tail/hoof growth than anything I've ever used and you get the added benefit of a nice shiny hair coat too. And its cheap!

My Morgan/Friesian got about a 6 inch section of his mane ripped out from a round bale feeder and I could of passed out. His mane is so thick and WAS long. I use Espana Protein Spray on his mane and tail and actually all of my horses and it seems to help.

Yes. I order mine from my local Farmers Co-op but most any feed store should be able to get it for you. I pay about $30 for a 50 lb bag which lasts forever.

Flax seed doesn't really put weight on them does it? Just promotes hair growth?

I agree with MTG, I also buy Skin so soft as well. Skin So Soft reconditions the mane and hair and it helps as a natural shine but is not slippery as show sheen is. It does wonders as well as works as a fly spray, all for about 9 dollars a bottle. Hope that helps

My horses have never gained any weight on flax although it is high in fat. I just feed it for hoof growth and coat condition.
