I have a finished barrel mare that is 15yr and I am currently running her in a hackamore. She turns super tight and drops her shoulder going into the second and 3rd barrel. I need something with better lift going in and around the barrel. Any reccomendations???

Do you have a video?

Just kinda wondering if simply a bit is going to solve your problem, or if you will need to take a step back and do some re-training to fix her dropping a shoulder. Or it could be the rider accidentally cueing wrong. Lots of variables! A video would be good for bit suggestions anyway.

Iv used hackamores all my life and they are really good at causing dropped shoulders. If your mare is 15, then I would assume she is fully seasoned and its not a training issue unless she is plowing the barrels but "occasionally" bumping one? there is a big difference in the two. If just bumping one every once in a while then a bit change might help a lot. I would try pretty much anything with some flex. I like anything that can slide a little bit, like a gag, so its not too harsh but can give you some bend in your turn and help you pick her up. The biggest thing is don't go to the extreme and get a bit that is really tough and will discourage her since she is not used to a bit at all.
