I AM being nice
Posts: 4396
Location: MD | I first got on the Paint mare in September of 2010. She was being trail ridden after having been retired from running barrels for two years when I first sat on her. This run was made late in November of 2010. Obviously, she wasn't totally fixed at this point, but you can see what a different horse she was then compared to what she is now. When I got her back this last time, I literally cried and got off of her in the middle of many rides, as I was so distraught over what had been done to her.

I couldn't agree more...You would have to explain the difference and they still wouldn't get it.
I did watch and you did a nice job on her. |

It is my understanding that you have an excellent reputation in the barrel racing community, the way you handle yourself on this board, the way you handle a horse and the obvious deep love you have for horses speaks volumes. You are a class act, sir! Many people never strive to develop an understanding, a wisdom with horses that you have. I personally always enjoy your insights. It is not always those who speak the loudest or are most adamant about their opinions who are correct. I hope one day I will be able to meet you in person as you are someone I would love to learn from. |

| I don't know the story on this horse, but I watched the 2010 video you posted and the 2013 videos you have up of this horse. He looks nice in the videos I watched of him.

I AM being nice

Location: MD | Thank you all! I am probably more protective of that dadgum mare than just about any other living being. She truly tries so hard and if anything, does too much to try and please. When I first started hauling her, everyone who had ever swung a leg over here told me what a counterfeit, cheating, worthless POS she was. She had come so far and went on to be much nicer than that video depicts. For the first few months after leaving my program, she ran HUGE. When she came back to me, I thought that she was beyond salvaging, but I tried because I have so much faith in her. Then of course, there was the incident with her and the youth rider where they flipped a locked gate and I was sure that she was either dead, or had suffered a career ending injury. Each run that I make on that mare is a gift, no matter whether I've had to rein off, or if my leg is gushing blood. I just like for everyone to see her at her best and acknowledge that the way that she is today is no fault of her own.

| Wow Andy, what a shame that mare was blown up, she was so nice and quiet. It is sad what ignorance or not caring can do to a horse. Thank goodness there are people like you who can feel a horse, their mnd and heart and want to take proper care of it. No explanation needed, I don't know anyway if you would reach the folks who don't get that it is more than just getting the horse around the barrel, it is about the horse wanting to turn the barrel and liking their job. |

Location: Kansas | you shouldn't have to explain to anyone andy.....you are an excellent hand on a horse. Your quiet in your hands and your body, I personally admire how you ride.....And I would love for you to eventually hold a clinic here in kansas because I'll be the first to sign up! The mare looks great to me! |

Location: Midwest | Alright, is this a spin off of that "men in barrel racing" thread??? That one got ugly. I'm guessing Andy was trashed by someone and that really pizzes me off.
He puts himself out there a LOT so the folks on here might learn a thing or two. He goes out of his way to explain things to people, and does a pretty good job of doing so. Maybe instead of criticizing, certain parties should open their minds and try to learn something new. Nobody knows it all (even experienced folks can benefit from a new perspective).
I don't know what happened, but it seems to me he was singled out unfairly, and that's bs. I don't know Andy, but I admire his skill and his smooth runs. If I were near TX for the clinic or further east, I myself would like a lesson or two with him.
It amazes me on here that someone would personally attack Andy, since he puts a lot of time and effort into helping others on this board.
<end rant>

Location: MI | I don't know what was said, I'll be honest, I stay away from hot and snarky threads cause I'm pretty much a "no drama momma". But, I hate that someone would attack you Andy when you offer awesome threads for people to learn from. And I am SO thankful for that, because being pregnant and not able to ride you give me something to look forward to, learn from, and live vicariously through until I can ride again. So poo to whoever said bad things, and thanks Andy, for the lessons that you have offered to those who will listen on this board. It is much appreciated! |

 The Worst Seller Ever

Location: Oklahoma | I know how frustrating that scenario can be. I have a mare at my house that I rode a couple times when the previous owners first got her as a 5yo (She is now 22) and she was awesome, just loved running. I watched this mare suffer through so many dumb training tecniques. I was able to buy her as a 15 yo and took her to college with me. It took me a year to get her right mentally and physically, but she would run an awesome pattern for me especially after I switched her to the left.
Eventually I traded her for a mare more screwed up than she was (eventually fixed that one too). I got her back after she wnet through a trader, and to a really good home. I tried to fix her a 2nd time but by now she just hated everythign to do with barrels. She would run for me most of the time, but if anyone else pointed her at the barrels she would give the finger and run off. I could run her in a halter, but she would run through a longshank bit and metal tie-down with anyone else.
She is now being a crany old hooker at my house. I don't technically "own her" now, but she will never leave my care again. I will try to get her in shape enough for my little one to run poles on, but if she won't work then she will go back to being a fatty. |
