I recently made a purchase, paid with paypal and the seller just notified me that the funds are not available until Jan 2. I know it is just a couple days away, but why isn't the money avilable to the sell right away? Paypal removed the money from my account.
I havent used paypal in over a year+ so I am not all that familier with the ins and outs.

I'd personally call them, I had an issue like that and I finally called them and it was resolved

I can't remember how exactly that works but its something about how your account is set up.  I recently had a fundraiser for the SD Ranchers and I would say half of the Paypal payments I received the funds weren't available for a few days.  It wasn't a big deal and I never had a problem with any of the payments.

Ours is availible to make a pay pal purchase with as soon as it shows up as a payment, but if we move it to our bank account it take 3 -4 business days.

Crosspur is correct.  As far as being quick, easy and safe....it is being safe because its making sure the funds are available in the buyers account so the seller doesn't get the shaft by a bounced "check".

Ok, thanks everyone :) I still dont understand it 100% because of right now paypal took the money from my bank account and they (paypal) are going to sit on the money until jan 2? If they took the money already from me, how would I take it back or how would the seller get the bad end of a deal?

If you have the money in your paypal account when making payment the seller gets it immediately. If you make payment and it transfers from your bank it will not be available to seller for 3-4 business days

Thats goofy.... Ok- so how do I move money from my personal account to paypal? Does it just sit there until I buy something? Because if they are just going to hold the money I may as well have just sent a money order.

I just sold something on eBay.....they said my funds wouldn't be available until Jan 18!!  They said I could get my money sooner by shopping the item, marking it as shipped, and adding a tracking #.  I think they do this to encourage quicker transactions.  Kind of annoying though.

I was hacked too and got a call from paypal weekend before last.....for $1000.  It was actually two transactions, and I think we have it under control, but sure is a scary situation!  I don't even hardly ever use my paypal account.
