Location: East Tennessee but who knows?! | Honestly, I've never noticed that much of an improvement with doing situps or crunches for riding and core. I didn't start doing any planks until the last couple of years and when I'm routinely doing them, I notice an improvement.
What really helps me though for body control and core more than anything when it comes to riding is riding in my huntseat saddle and riding two point a whole lot. |

Location: oklahoma | 15-30 mins of Pilates every other day. Eta,Pilates incorporates planks, squats and push ups into the workouts. Correct push ups will build your core too.

Location: Oklahoma | I plank a lot. I also do squats. If you do squats properly, you use a lot of core muscles as well as your legs. |

Location: TN | I agree with the previous posters who said planks! They are really tough, but they work your entire core. I can tell a difference in my core strength when I'm doing them regularly. I'm not a big fan of regular sit ups, I think there are other exercises that tone my core better - like planks, bicycle crunches (elbow to opposite knee), and some pilates exercises. I'm glad you posted this - I need to get back to working out on a regular basis and lose this holiday weight gain! |

Location: Montana | What is planks? I need help with my core strength badly. I was going to do situps, but that doesn't help? I'm a pretty strong person, but am long waisted and my core strength is lacking. My mom recommended their exercise bicycle, but I don't want to subject myself to that torture, LOL. |

I got into doing planks from a BHN article. I think it was from last February. I'll see if I can scan the article. |

Location: WA | Oh goodness, so many things.... plank for 50 seconds (I do a lot of interval training) with a weight plate on your back, mason twists with weight (hold a 10-15# dumbell as you go side to side), bicycles and reverse bicycles (seated not laying on your back), pulse ups, leg climbs, bicycles but bring your opposite knee to elbow, reverse plank to table, side plank with arm raise with 10# weight, choo choos (standing, bring knee up to opposite elbow, start slow, increase speed, do 100), High Intensity Interval Training, side bends with kettlebell (I am at 44 # now for high count), TRX strap exercises, mountain climbers (those suck, do high reps), burpees, take a bench press bar and add weights to the end - kneel on floor - roll bar out till you are laying on floor - roll back up with hands on bar - no cheating!.... I have also found doing a lot of sprinting or ladders on the treadmill helps too. One day I did three miles starting at 5.0 for a minute, then 5.5, then 6, then 6.5, then 7. I tried to hold at 7 for two minutes, but had to go back down, so I did 6.5 for two, then worked way back down. I usually just run at 5.0 so that shredded my core the next day. Proper form in EVERYTHING is a must. And speed doesn't help your cause. You don't have to go snail slow on muscle workouts, but just busting through it as fast as you can doesn't help either. I do for count (except plank stuff, then I do 50 seconds) and am deliverate in form. |

Location: WA | I have more but am blanking on what they are. You can go on Pinterest and type in 1000s workouts. They are workouts with a 1000 reps total and are super easy to do at home. I obviously do a lot at the gym, but I am a stay at home mom so I can. Except today. Today I am being lazy and punishing myself by cleaning the house, lol. |
