Location: Smack Dab in the Middle | I'm feeling sentimental this morning for some random reason. Lets all share some smiles, and pictures of kids and their horses. My son is 2 and LOVES the horses. This spring, I'll give him my old show/all-around horse to be his very own, and I can't wait!!!! Nothing makes me happier than to give him a nice horse, that will take great care of him, but teach him how to be a good rider. I was one of those lucky kids that grew up with some REALLY NICE horses, though mine were halter horses. I watched a lot of them win national and world championship titles, and I got to hold those trophies, and I treasured them like they were my very own. While my son may not ever get to see that type of winning, I hope he'll get his own trophies, and nuture a love and partnership for his horses, just like I did.
Here he is at Thanksgiving riding my mare that will be his...
Here he is on the above mare's full sister (my barrel horse) showing in his first lead-line class over Labor Day weekend.
Riding my husband's 25 year old (retired) heading horse, Ace. Hubby has had ace for over 20 years, and it was our intention that he be our son's horse, but he's not aged well the last couple of years after loosing most of his teeth. But Cole likes to love on him at Grammy's house when we're there.
He also steals Daddy's rope horse to ride all the time. Here they are at their first jr rodeo last summer, where Deuce took care of Cole better than we could have hoped for. Yes, the horse is every bit as big as he looks...Ever seen a 1300#+ horse tip-toe around so as not to jostle his cargo too much?
Just makes my heart happy to see my child get to love nice horses, that really seem to love him back.

Location: MI | Your son is so adorable!! I didn't grow up with horses, but my kids are. They've been through a few - Cindy was our first pony, she passed away this past April. She was my oldest daughter's. Mel was Cindy's 'replacement'...she loves the kids and does really good with them, but I'm still on the fence and am not sure if she's going to be too hot for them or not. Susie we just got a few months ago, she is our 'babysitter' for the little ones, and is going to show my oldest (6) how to do a lot of horse care on her own. Love my kids with the horses!

Location: Texas | My kiddo on Buckwheat. Buck was 20 years old in this pic and we had to put him down a year after this. I wish my kid got to grow up on him like I did. This was the first year I let him ride him by himself. Both had the need for speed, and my son didn't quite realize how fast this horse still was, and how much he still wanted to run. So I had to threaten him within an inch of his life to keep him at a walk lol. ninjas!

Location: Texas | The picture in my avatar is my daughter and our old coy bonaza broodmare/babysitter (Dixie) My son is spraying water on one of our colts (Stetson) and the Roan (Roanie) is my husbands new head horse. The pony is what santa brought them for Christmas this year. I have been looking for a good minded pony for almost a year that they could saddle catch etc by themselves. He is wonderful. My kids have named him Jet. My son insists he is a saddle bronc horse ( which is fitting as my sons name is Bronc LOL) and my daughter says he is the best pony in the world. THis is such a great post I love seeing kids and horses!

Location: Texas | I am going to try to post a pic of my daughter and my not so old horse, Roany. I started running Roany when he was 7, and he was starting to make a nice horse. He was hitting the 1D at some tough barrel races, when he started having some problems. He was diagnosed with EPM and I thought his career and life was over. After a few years off and different treatments, my son starting playing with him. He worked ok, but never really gave it his all. Moved my daughter up to him this year, and he has had a change of attitude. Everyday they get a little bit better. Placing here and there. Really think they will be a good pair. Never in my my wildest dreams did I think he would make a kid horse. He really works for her and takes care of her. Can't wait for this season.

Location: Where the stars at night are big and bright, TX | My daughter and her beloved Fuzzy. An old NM ranch mare/broodmare who was donated to us when the owner grew too old to care for her. We only had her 7 months before she passed of old age (was 28 when we got her), but she left hoofprints on my daughters heart and she's now 10 and mentions her almost everyday. I'd give anything to have Fuzzy back or find another just like her. It tears me up to see these, I don't think we'll ever find another who'll babysit my kids.
These were her last ride photos. She was put down a couple days later - she could no longer stand without great struggle and we put her down on the ranch before winter set in.

 Am I really the Weirdo?
Location: Kansas | This is an old one of Chance and Annie, a bay mare we had for a while, back in 09 teaching a couple kids how to ride. Part of the deal I made with their dad on renting the pasture was that I'd teach the kids to ride and care for horses. They ended up buying Annie when I changed jobs and moved. Chance & Annie were both 7 at the time, and it took Taylor (the girl) a solid 3 1/2 weeks to get Chance to lope for her. I was majorly impressed with him. Maybe someday he'll teach my children (which doesn't look likely) or nieces & nephews to ride and turn into one of those awesome pee wee barrel horses. I'm also attaching one of him and Taylor the first day he loped for her, and one of Brett (my youngest brother) riding him in a trail class when Chance was 4 & Brett was 10.

My brother raises Clydes. He's sold many to people just wanting a big pasture ornament that you can love on. Has also sold many to go to big hitches. If you are serious about getting one for your hubby send me a PM and I'll give you contact info. |

| I have no idea if it will post and my son is a lot older than a have posted but here is out 15 yr old son and his horse Sampson who is a horse we rescued two years ago an finally in the fall found a farrier to get him sound enough to ride. This was a match made in heaven and seeing the bond these two have brings tears to my eyes watching them together.
Many here probably have watched Cody grow up here. He isn't my little boy anymore.

After we put my son's horse down he pretty much lost interest in horses. Now it is all about dirt bikes, football, soccer, and baseball... Which is great, but I wish he really had time to enjoy it before he lost interest in it. I've asked him if he wanted another horse and he says "Yeah I guess... I just don't like it when they die." Makes my heart hurt. |

| Here is my little guy. He just turned four December 18th, so these pictures are from when he was 3. The first one is of him riding my main mount, Bonnie. His pony was not feeling good so Bonnie had to pull double duty as a kids horse and run in the jackpot that day :) The second one is of his pony we just had for a few months, Checkers. We had to put him to sleep in September because he had lymphoma and on the same day my father passed away of brain cancer (really bad day!). Then the next two pictures are of Blaine and Dodge, who was bought by money my dad had left Blaine when he passed. She is awesome and I have a video of him loping her around the arena for the first time this past weekend http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16fsX4KD_KY

Location: Missouri | Love all the pictures!! My daughter was on a horse before she could even hold her head up on her own (around 3 weeks old). Only for a few seconds on my old trusty gelding. She's taken several rides with me and can't get enough of the horses. She is now one year old and just last weekend I put her on my old gelding with me and trotted for the first time and she was just laughing away and a huge grin the whole time. |
