| I am a regular poster that is asking for you to please share your stories. I currently have no horses and I desperately want one again. Its been 3 years since having a horse to compete on and 3 years of scraping and saving trying to get a truck, land, a shelter, a saddle, and everything that you would need. Every time I get excited or every time I think I'm almost there something happens and there goes my money.
I feel as though I might as well give up on competing again. Everyone dreams of the NFR being the best and all I'm asking for is a chance to go to a jackpot once a month, but that simple little dream seems so far away. Some of you live on ranches and have grown up aways with a horse….well I did to but life circumstances and a nasty divorce left me with nothing. You have no idea the pain of having to sell your most loved possessions because you can not afford to take care of them to the best of your ability anymore.
Please share your stories of making it again after losing it all…..someone out there has struggled like me to live this life that seems to come so easy for some. I have a significant other who trains and he doesn't want me keeping anything at house. I understand his fears because if we split I'd have no where to take a horse but my brothers farm that is solely for cattle, but I just feel no support. And yes I get to be around horses but its been a year since I've had one to even lope around a set. Going to a show seems like a dream I'll always chase but never catch at this point. My family has land but its all leased out in tobacco or cattle. I've tried talking to them but they don't make money off me having an acre or two fenced off for a horse and it would be impractical to split the long term leases they have made with other farmers.
I just feel no support and that maybe God just doesn't mean for me to life this lifestyle I so love anymore. Shows every weekend used to be a way of life for me and now its just a dream I think about before falling asleep….
PS- my grammar and spelling is probably horrible because as I'm typing this tears are falling so please don't critize |

Give everyone a general idea of where you live. There's a lot of BB's that would love to have you join them. I know for myself I have more horses here to ride and run barrels than I have time for. |

Amen to that lol....tell us where you live. I'm sure someone can hook you up with a ride. I wish you lived close to me. You could ride whatever you wanted to. Just go pick one out lol. |

| I understand your heartache. I live, eat, sleep, and breathe horses. However, I had to fight for what I have now. When I was 16 I was pretty much kicked to the curb...heck it was just a struggle for me to have my own horse let alone be in 4-H. I moved in with a crazy lady, but still had to be very independent. I was able to join a drill team-and will never forget the feeling of showing down at state being the only 4-H there without my parents in the crowd or there to even support me. I saved up my money and bought a mare named Rosie….all on my own. Then moved her out to live with me with the crazy lady. I worked hard-I would take care of her 30 something horses and go to school, and also worked at Build-A-Bear. Somehow managed to make it. Then I graduated HS-still had Rosie-and put myself through college. This was probably the hardest I had to work. I worked three jobs (plus school full time) just to have Rosie even if I didn’t have time to ride every day-I had made a vow I would never not have a horse. When I was 20 my now hubby and I bought a house-I still worked a lot-and he had two horses, I had Rosie. We didn’t have a truck…we didn’t have a barn, and all our time and energy went to saving JUST so we can have horses. People probably thought we were crazy, but we took that time to get a few projects and trail rode them around our place and got them broke. Finally-I graduated college!!! I was able to send my project to a trainer to put 30 days on him and he ended up being something special. I ended up getting close with my trainer who is now a father figure and mentor to me, and now I have three nice horses in my barn and ride every day that I possibly can. In the summers I am able to go to horse shows every weekend. BUT with that being said-I pick up a few jobs in the summer so that there is NO excuse for me to not be able to haul. I have no issues with working more than one job so that I can afford to do what I love. There was a time when I would watch other people ride, and show, and train their horses-and I will never forget HOW BAD I wanted to do that….and now hubby and I can look back and say we have and are. So my point is-if this is truly your passion-NOTHING will stop you. Set your foot down-if you want to lope something around some barrels go find something to do that!!!!!! Put your foot down-stand up for yourself-make it happen. If you are near me you are more than welcome to ride with me. |

Me either! I need a horseless rider here too. Especially once I get a job again, which I WILL (dangit). I want to continue team penning which means 3 horses to leg up and keep legged up. |

I know! I'm cool once I get where I'm going. The barrel races are full of girls I only get to see at runs and we have a great time. Its just the traveling especially long distances that I don't like doing by myself. My daughter and I put on thousands of miles a year hauling to her rodeos. Now she's a party pooper. |

| Alright I am going to join this thread because I am in the SAME BOAT!
I began hauling in junior high with my parents and kept going through high school. I LOVED it. I never had the best horses or the right gear <- I had a roping saddle and then a cheap ebay saddle that I worked all summer for lol. But the time spent with my family was what I remember the most.
Eventually I moved to college and knew that I would not be able to dedicate myself to horses and an education. So I sold everything I had.
I graduated with my BS and got a job immediately out of school. I worked the night shift. I worked weekends. And 2 years later I was finally in a position to buy a "nice" horse and hit the road. We were going every weekend. I was broke but I was happy!
6 months ago the company I work for offered me a job across the country. It was an opportunity to do so much more with my career so I took it. Once again, I sold everything I had!
Now I live in an area with NO HORSES. I have the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to do what I want. But NO HORSES.
Thanks life!!!! I do not know why this is so hard for me. I honestly have no idea how it comes naturally to others?
The only thing I want is to buy a small ranch with a few ponies, and now my life has taken the most strange turn and I am so far away from my poor dead dream. But, I am keeping my nose to the grindstone and I KNOW that this will look up. It just seems like a vicious life circle. Hang in there original poster, you are not alone and I know that it will get better for the both of us.
