Location: ohio-in my own little world with pretty ponies :) | Soo for the past week I've been getting pain in my gums both top and bottom at the back of my mouth so I'm assuming my wisdom teeth are coming in. Well, today the pain has been crazy! So sore!
I realllly want/need to go to the dentist but I am terrified to have them taken out!
Whever has had them taken out please share your experience! |

I just had my bottom 2 taken out on the 28th. I had my top 2 done years ago, not sure why they didn't do all 4 back then. I should have had them out in my 20's or earlier instead of my early 40's. Something to do with your nerves along the jawline and the wisdom teeth getting too close to each other. In all honesty it wasn't bad. They'll either put you under or just novacain. I opted for novacain. Do it sooner rather than later. |

Location: Texas | They sound like they may be coming impacted. Getting them out sucks but it's not that bad. Get all four out at once or you will never go back. Have them put you under for it ( it's not really being put under as in surgery they call it conscious sedation but I counted back from 100 and got to 96 and don't remember crap so it's very similar.) make sure you have someone recording you when you get out bc you will be saying the funniest things. They cut them out stitch you up pack with gauze and send you home with Vicodin. Your pretty normal after 3 or so days. Watch for dry sockets and dont drink from a straw. It's not that bad. The worst part for me was the IV as I hate needles. I asked and they gave me a pill ( can't remember what it was) to take 1/2 before I went in so I could relax. Eat Popsicles and soft food. And you're good to go! |

Location: Midwest | I had all four done at once. Several were impacted. I was put out and it was not a big deal. I was eating the same day. It hurt worse before they came out! Lol |

Location: Washington. (The DRY side.) | I had my top ones done years ago. It was no big deal. This was before they "knocked you out" at the dentist. Afterwards was no big deal either. I didn't take any pain meds as I didn't need it. |

| I had zero problems with my wisdom teeth until I was in my mid twenties... then one week the pain was absolutely unbearable.
Anywho, I had a really great experience. I just took some happy pills. I was not put under and they did not use shots to numb my mouth. In fact, I remember the whole thing. No pain. No groggy recovery time. It was awesome for surgery lol.

Location: The South | Don't be scared, it's really not that bad when they take them out. I had a rough go because they took all 4 wisdom teeth out and 2 additional teeth on the same friggin day when I was in 6th grade.
Then later when I was in college, I had my teeth cleaned and my dentist said "you need to get those top wisdom teeth taken out or they're going to undo what your braces straightened out". I thought he was joking, but apparently I re-grew my top wisdom teeth!! I didn't know that could happen. Luckily getting them out the second time wasn't a big deal because they were small. Just had to share my freak of the week story :) you'll be fine!!! Hope you feel better soon! |

Location: Montana | Wisdom teeth are a pain in the butt to come in. I have all four of mine still (they started coming in when I was 15-16 I think, and I'm 22 now) and still once in a while they hurt. The gums get irritated, and that's what hurts so much. Also, food gets under the gums and cause them to be painful and swollen, so be sure to keep your mouth well rinsed out. You don't have to get rid of them, but almost every dentist and dental hygienest (sp?) will push for them to come out...mine does and I ignore them. 
ETA: My dad almost always goes without novocain when he has filling or gets something fixed. I can't figure out why...

Just took some Advil and hopefully they will stop hurting so I can sleep! Lol man, I thought I was done with losing and getting teeth a long time ago!

Lots of dentists recommend it to everyone. My folks never had theirs out, and no issues. Me on the other hand...yeah. LOL |

Little sore, no solid food for a couple of days but other than it was no biggie.

Location: Randolph, Utah | I had mine out last march, I was a mess before, I had myself convinced it was going to be terrible, it wasn't lol!
I went to an oral surgeon, and had them put me under it didn't long to get them out. As soon as we left the office I went to wendys and ate a frosty, took a pain pill and slept for hours. I think I only took 3 pain pills total and did ibuprofen and a ice pack the rest of the time. The swelling was the worst for me.
I really liked soup the first dew days, the warmth helped, mash potatoes were good and snack pack pudding.
I avoided straws for over a week and didn't have any trouble.

When I was about 16 I was told I wouldn't have to worry about wisdom teeth, I had to get them out at 25! lol |

I had all four of mine pulled at once they numbed me and pulled all four. FYI DONT DRINK OUT OF STRAWS afterward. |

I am telling you take the happy pills. It was a walk in the park and I got all 4 pulled at the same time.
I was awake and aware of everything, I just didnt care. |

Location: Where Governor's make the liscense plates | If you have wisdom teeth they usually need to go and if they've flared up once they will again at some point. Its very simple to get them out especially if you're sedated. |

It is possible to have more than 4 wisdom teeth. The "extra" are generally not completely formed, but I took x-rays on a girl in her mid twenties about a month ago that actually had 8 back there. Talk about freaky looking on films!  and the DDS I work for generally won't recommend taking them out if they're not causing problems. If they're impacted, or causing swelling/irritation/getting food caught, that equals a problem. If they're impacted they're compromising the tooth in front of it, and if its irritated or getting food caught down there you're just asking for an infection! |

Location: Okemah,OK | I had mine all 4 out at once. No sedation, just novocaine. But I waited til mine were all erupted and in completely. It was sore when they came in but then they were able to pull them without having to do surgery. The worst was the sound of teeth being pulled.....yuck! No after effects, no dry sockets, etc. I've heard some people have to do surgery because theirs never do erupt or that the root can get around the jawbone and then surgery is required. If you do surgery, conscious sedation is AWESOME! I had two root canals with that and have zero memory......best dentist visit ever!
