I have a first down dash/ easily smashed filly and when I push her to the first a little and go to throttle her down she wants to throw her head up and take about a half stride by. She is extremely broke (and I know what broke is, family has reined cow horses) and I've done lots of rating excersizes. Tried a loose tiedown and she hates is so I got a flat leather bonnet one since she naturally moves with her nose tipped out and she dislikes it. I went from a snaffle to a goostree delight with the inch or so gag and now to a medium shank ed wright or trammel. She works awesome in a German martingale but I feel like I can't use that forever. How many of you run in a German martingale? I bought a tender touch combination and she seems to like it. Second question. Can you use a German martingale with a combination bit?
With your horse the thing that stands out is she naturally runs with her head tipped out. To me this horse is running unbalanced, I have never seen a horse run naturally with their head tipped to one side.
My guess she is hurting somewhere and is bracing for the pain.

Maybe I read that differently, but I took it to mean that she "pokes" her nose.
She turned 5. I noticed a clicking noise just the other day on her left hock or stifle. Not sure if that's a tendon or the joints? I'll go get an xray of her hocks.
I run in a German Martingale and a Jr Cowhorse. Talked to Don Wasson the other day and asked him if he thought I could use his teardrop combination bit with the German Martingale and it said go for it. That came from the bit maker.
