| If I were you, based on pedigree alone, I would go with First down French. I like SBL, but I think that pedigree needs some sun frost. |

Location: Georgia | Im partial to First Down French because I have one on the way myself. However, if I were in your shoes I would change it up and go with Shawne Bug Leo. Both are phenomenal studs and I dont think you can go wrong with either of them. |

I bred a bay mare to him so I asked for a chromed up buckskin filly. The mare had all bays when bred to a sorrel & a bay, so I figured at the very least I'd get a bay. Well my order must have been written down wrong...I got a sorrel filly but she is VERY chromey. Even has a belly spot which her mom (AQHA registered) also had. |

Or maybe that was just the easiest way to look smart. And we are both to lazy to do it the hard way! |

Location: Texas | I bred my black mare to FDF and got a sorrel colt with a blaze, a sock, and a bunch of that rabicano frosting. He's so cute :P.
This year I have my sorrel mare in foal to him.. she also has a blaze, the coon tail, frosting, and speckles under her forearms and throat… so it should be spicy even if it comes out sorrel :) |

Location: Keeping up with the numbers! | We bred a bay mare to FDF last year and received a sorrel filly with a blaze and sock as well. Could not be happier with her. The year before we bred to Firewater Ta Fame (buckskin) and got the same thing (sorrel). We are expecting another baby from FTF and I am hoping the stars are all aligned and send us a buckskin...but, in all honesty I will be tremendously happy if we get a healthy baby no matter what color we get.
I don't thing you could go wrong with either stallion you mentioned..they both seem to be throwing extremely nicely built babies.

Location: TX | Well of course I'm going to say Shawne Bug Leo!! I do like the looks of First Down French and have heard wonderful things about his babies. If you are looking for a video of Shawne Bug Leo then please look at the following link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wrEvelKfz8.
SBL's colts are all naturals on the pattern, very easy going, are easy to train on the barrels, & have loving personalities. They are built to last and most have fun facial markings along with a sock on the back left if they are a sorrel. Leo just got into Future Fortunes, TC100, WPRA PESI, and our SBL Incentive where we give $2,000 $1,000 and $500 to the TOP 3 SBL colts performing in the Diamonds & Dirt Futurity. His colts right now are averaging at about $10,000-$12,000 for 2 year olds, $15,000-$33,000 for 3 year olds on the pattern. He is a good investment!
Leo is a more laid back stallion with a very pleasing and docile personality and disposition. So I always recommend if you have a hot or running mare and need something to cool that down, then to book to Leo. He will add the turn into mares. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF HIS BABIES ON THE PATTERN, RATES AND TURNS IT!! They want to work a great pattern for you and most have been light in the mouth.
For 2014, we have some NFR contestants booking to him, NFR dams and some top notch barrel and race mares not to mention your good mares that win at playdays, opens, youth shows or have been a family's favorite broodmare.
We are giving a personalized Quillin Leather Key Tag for the people that book to SBL this year. Quillin Leather makes some of the nicest halters so we are excited to give the mare owners a little "THANK YOU" to show our appreciation for their support.

that's too funny because the black mare I bred to FDF and got the sorrel, is in foal to Firewater Ta Fame and I am hoping for something cool looking! I told my mare though.. If she's going pali or buckskin it better be dark and golden or I'd rather take the sorrel! All kidding aside, I just want healthy babies… color would be the cherry on top! |
