Im purchasing a new trailer from someone in ohio and am possibly looking for a hauler to get it up to mn. Anyone done this before? How did u go about exchanging $? Did you pay them before and on good faith hope there was a trailer for the shipper to ship?

I went on uship.com for mine. You enter in pick up and delivery places and get a bunch of bids. My first guy totally flaked on me, but the second one I did was wonderful. They were fully insured and kept me up to date the whole trip.

The dealership my husband works for ships a lot of trailers. They use a guy here locally who has done it a bunch for them, so it's not quite the same as what you are looking to do. I think the going rate is $1.25/loaded mile. So if they have a trade, the guy gets paid both ways. He gets paid when he returns, but does get per diem upfront.
But in your case, the rate should be about the same. Since they are bringing you the trailer, I would pay them when they arrived with the trailer.

When I bought my trailer the dealer already had a driver so I just used him. To ship from OK to SE MO it was around $700 I paid the driver cash on delivery. No issues at all.
