I am going to be doing an embryo transfer this year out of an old old mare, and by a now deceased stallion. I will be lucky if I can get an egg to flush from this mare as she was always a hard breeder so, keeps your fingers crossed.
My question is if I can somehow get this cross to happen, is there an insurance company that does insure an unborn foal for around $25k?

I insured my embryo transfers through Plains Horizon with Marvin Tavarez. I would highly recommend using him for this type of insurance. The underwriter they used when I got the insurance was Catlin. Unfortunately we lost two embryo transfer foals, and as soon as the paperwork from us and the vet was received they sent us a check immediately. No hassles. As far as the valuation of your unborn foal, they can help you determine that. Also, get the extended policy. I can't remember the specifics but there is a shorter policy and a longer policy. If we had gone with the shorter policy one of our foals would not have been covered as she was several weeks old when we lost her.

We insured through Wilkins this year. Ours were covered from 45 days post conception until 30 days after they are born. It's kind of expensive but worth it on those higher dollar investments. I can't remember without looking it up but I believe it was 15% of the value of the embryo/foal.
