What do you do to get your first time mares ready. She's healthy and in great shape f course.
I'm wondering about cultures / breeding soundness exams. This year will be live cover I'm roping her off and than picking her up in foal (so excited)
After the first foal I will be doing AI and she will be getting an embryo pulled for the stud owner and than rebreed to him for me and she will carry for me.
Do you just breed than deal with problems as they arise or make sure there's nothing going on each year so they have a better first catch rate espicaly with shipped semen?
I've never done more than turn a stud out, so the whole breeding farm / AI is very new to me.

I just take them in about two months before I want to AI to get a check. They do cultures to make sure there are no issues etc. Then I just let her sit and grow!

I had my mare's caslicks removed about 30 days before she was bred, so she would be good and healed and be able to enjoy her first time. She was young and had never had female problems, so I didn't do anything else. She took her first cycle and had a textbook pregnancy.
