So I have super narrow hips and a lower back problem which causes sometimes painful or numbing nerve pinching from my waist down when I ride in certain saddles. I have a Bob Marshall and love it, it is very comfortable and gives me zero pain, though I feel a little too deep in it sometimes. But I don't want another treelessI don't think, I don't like my BM when running this horse too much. So, what would you suggest trying?

It's broad seats that upset it, narrow or more rounded seats seem to make me more comfortable. I have had a Big Horn that was okish, a Circle Y Proven that was okish too, a Billy Cook that I HATED, a Sharon Camarillo Courts I also did not like, and a beater Double J that was awesome, but too big of a seat. If I had the money I would jump for a smaller Double J, but I don't, so, suggestions?

Thank you!

There are none ....
barrel saddles are the poorest designed saddles ever made ...
they are sold on marketing hype and bling ...

No other event think they have to have a separate saddle "to fit" each horse in their barn ... neither does your trainer ...

Could you find a saddle maker and have them build a saddle exactly how you need it? Might be easier than trying to find a premade saddle.

The Meleta Brown Freedom Saddle by Crates with Nettles half breed stirrups.

I second this. It has a narrower twist than a lot of saddles. My Crown C has a narrow seat as well. And the Lynn Mackenzie special or Nuevo tree is also narrow twisted.

I have found that the cantle height also makes a difference for me - I have lower back issues, which in turn causes problems w/my hip & my knees.  I can't go any higher than a 4" cantle.  I have had a Triple Creek, Meleta Brown's barrel saddle & a Martin Crown C, all in the 4" cantle & was very comfy in all 3.

You need to try one out if you can , but for me I have found that the Tammy Key has helped my back and hips more than anything. I had back surgery back in 2002 I had a plate , rodes , and screw put in my back then they took the bone off my hip and graphed it onto my back. I was told never to run barrels again but it wasn't long after that I was back barrel racing and rodeoing. I still do it and always will and I am getting close to being 50 . And the Tammy Key saddle has made my back and hips feel a lot better along with my knees.

If you can try an older Martha Josey that was made from 2000 and up they are better built and better quality then the new ones, I found her saddles really good for someone that needed a narrower twist. And the Double J's do have a narrower twist to them, love them. I am one that cant ride in a wide saddle, so I have to be careful in what saddles I buy. Good luck

I have similare issues with the hip and lower back pain, always have. I found like another posted stated, I can't do a cantle higher than 4". Before my Triple creek, which I love and doesn't hurt my hips or back, I had an older model Circle Y (1998) that also never hurt me, both with a 4" cantle. I have rode in 5" cantle saddles and always they pinch up my back and hips.

Like a well know saddle maker said.."If you have a saddle that fits everything in your barn it means you have horses with the same conformation."

Some people will buy a Full Quarter Horse Bars and then adjust fit for each horse with saddle pads which is fine when you are doing regular riding and slow work but usually doesn't work out well and when you start running and turning hard.

For my customers who have back pain I tell them a lower cantle back 4" or less and slanted stirrups(any brand) works wonders.

Triple Creek has a "women's inspired" saddle tree and I never had back issues with it at all.  It was very comfortable.  The leather wasn't super high quality like you'd find on the Crown C, but it's held up well and I've never had issues with it.
