Location: Texas | Specifically, say you have a run cow cross, sire is a son of first down dash, dam is where the cow is.
I'm not talking about sun frost or FG because that's pretty established in my opinion as "barrel blood."
What bloodlines are known to cross over from the reining, reined cow horse, cutting, etc world?

Location: Carpenter, WY | I like to see power in the stride, length of stride, ability to check themselves and turn and a overall willing athlete. The older I get the more important attitude is :) This filly is only a little over a month old in this video, but if you freeze the video at different points you can see how she works with her rear end and has the long stride. She is quite a bit larger now and her bone is just exceptional, with a short, broad back and still floats across the ground. :)

Doc O'Lena's are working fools! You dont see many bad ones. I had been around them before, but now that I have one in my pasture, it makes me want a whole herd of them. As far as other bloodlines, I've noticed that Dual Pep horses can really scoot also. And they are usually good looking to boot! |

I have noticed Dual Pep lines to, I really like mine and always get comments on how nice she is. I crossed her on Draws A Crowd and that baby is 3yo and riding great. I have her booked to Honors Abounding this year. |

I've heard that Smart Chic Olena's and Smart Little Lena's in general are some of the smartest horses you will ever sit on. (Hence the name I guess lol) I have never been around them personally, but I used to doing reining and those suckers were everywhere and winning.

They are just a tad too catty for me :) We do have this one comming in the spring though that will double up on the Smart Little Lena and then we will rebreed the mare to Slim for another speed/cow cross

| We used to have a daughter of Chic Please, who is by Smart Chic Olena. This mare went back to Doc O Lena 3 times. She was not very big, but she definitely made up for it in heart. She really wanted to move out, had good length of stride, and was very quick and catty.
I personally like the Colonel Hotrodder lines. They seem to have more size and bone. |

Location: CTX | So, I guess I have to exception to the rule then... this little mare will go in and give me a nice run, but she is by far the laziest horse I have been on in 2 decades!! Outside the race (yes she knows the difference, very smart!!) she will not move a muscle unless you really get after her.... lol, she is my turtle...
Planning on breeding her to a stud with SI of 116.... maybe that will help...

He's smart, easy-going, willing, athletic if a touch lazy. He's almost too nice because I forget he's barely three and tend to hold him to a higher standard than the silly racebreds I've had in the past. |

I'm looking at something who's race on top and out of a granddaughter of smart chic o lena on the bottom… I talked to my reining friend and she said the particular stud the fillys dam is by throws really good reiners- IE lazy, head down, super easy to train. LOL. She said lazy like it was a good thing. I was like well, add some run in the mix and maybe this one won't be lazy! |

I personally like my cowbreds out of a race mare with a cowbred stud, because the run typically comes from the maternal line if we're talking geldings, which is what I ride. I, too, prefer the Doc Bar lines if I'm going to have cow crossed on run. Not too fond of the others. Location: Texas | I prefer the run on the bottom as well but this is kind of an unplanned chance occurrence with a horse that's already born, so I guess it's what I've got to work with! Not that the breeding was unplanned, it's just that we're not looking it and it kind of fell in our laps.

THis little mare is cowbred on top and bottom. Can't do too much about that. But maybe I can introduce some speed to her.
She kinda fell into my lap for a backup horse, just to be able to jump on and have fun. Which so far she has done.
One good thing about her being a turtle is that I can put my nonhorsey husband on her and she wont do anything crazy!
