:( we are dealing with a tear or the superficial flexor tendon. I know DDFT is worse. Our vet did an ultra sound and injected it. We had her on stall rest and hand walking for 3 months. The first two weeks he had us on a bute regiment and cold hosing She now has graduated to supervised round pen turnout for 1/2 hr once a day. We are hoping to be able to start ponying/walking her next week after her checkup. It's a lot of time and patience. Don't skimp on the stall rest even if they look like they are doing better. She's also in boots when she's turned out now. Good luck. It's a long road.
We are 6 months out. I agree with the stall rest. We did the PRP injection with the plasma. He has also been on Previcox for 3 months during his rest trying to reduce some of the inflammation. We just got the go ahead to start walking and trotting him 3 days a week. Good luck with rehab. I did a lot of research and the majority of the results were stall rest. It's definitely a bummer.
My horse tore his chex ligament. Besides time off I gave my horse THE NutraWound (night) and THE NitrOxide (morning) for the first month. Then only NutraWound for the second month. Helped him to heal up faster and stronger.
You might call PLatinum Performance. They have a product called Osteon that is great for horses with tendon injuries. I would also feed the Platinum CJ with it. As far as therapy I would try either a laser or a Theraplate. Both will speed up healing as theu increase blood flow.
I bought a photonic torch for my tear! Mine was on stall rest a few months and then pasture only when wrapped - took 10 months before we could start riding again now I ice it everytime I ride hard - I wrap the leg EVERY time I get on whether trail riding or working hard I use the laser and lifewave patches on the area of the tear - have had good luck so far
