I rcvd an ipad mini as a gift and I am completely clueless as how to utilize it.  I had a basic kindle last year and then it just stopped working and in the end Amazon has been no help. So can I use the mini to read books? Does it video?
Any advice is greatly appreciated! And how do I use "apps"? I have wifi at home, but what happens if I get out in the boonies with no wifi?

I have the mini & love it! I have to fight my husband for it.
You can download the Kindle app from the App Store Icon on the Ipad for free. It is super easy. If I can do it, anyone can.
I can read from my Iphone or switch to my IPad & it will ask you if you want to pick up where your other device left off.
You can also video. I have just played with it a little and the video seems really good.
The only downfall to it is there is no flash, but I can live with that.
Not sure yet on getting out in the boonies yet with no wifi, but I am going to contact ATT, my cell phone carrier & see about adding my device to my cell plan, so I can use it anywhere.
Good luck & have fun with it!

as long as the book is downloaded to the ipad, you can read it without wifi... you only need the wifi to download the book.. most apps only require the wifi to download as well.

if you want to video I suggest an app called "ubersense" it will allow you to zoom after you have videod (you don't have to try and zoom while trying to video) It will also let you watch vidoe at several different slow motion speeds ex. 1/2 speed, 1/4 speed etc. , you can compare 2 videos side by side etc. It is really easy to use.

Thanks for the recommendation. Just downloaded that app. Already love the way I can analyse videos. So cool.

Oh my, this little thing is addicting!
Another question, evertime I go into something an actual page appears and when I hit the home button it stays up. I know how to delete an app, but how do I delete these pages? When I double click on the home button, that is when they show up and I am able to scroll thru all of them.

Love the suggestion of differet pages/apps! Keep them coming!

You shouldn't need to add it to your cell if you have an iphone with an internet packag You should be able to access Internet on your iPad via your personal hotspot on iPhone. That's what I do so anywhere I have Internet on my iPhone I can use my iPad Internet.
I love, love, love my mini iPad. I downloaded the kindle app for reading but my iPad is like a walking computer.

For reading books from your library download Overdrive. This is awesome for downloading library books. You must have a current library card.

To delete an app just hold your finger on the icon until it starts to move, then you can delete it.
Boopies think I spelt it right is another download for library books.

Turn on the gestures setting....

If you place 4 fingers on the screen and swipe upwards, it reveals all the apps you've opened. If you swipe a single page up, it clears it out and closes it. It you select the page, it'll jump to that app.

If you're in an app, place all five fingers on the screen and make a pinching motion and it'll close the app as well.

Thank you! This is what I was referring to, I got the apps to delete, but that didnt work on the pages!   How did you figure this out? All you get is the ipad, a cord and a plug in, how in the heck am I suppose to know about all these little odd features??

I downloaded a tutorial app when I first got it.  You find some some free ones in the App Store.

you can group your apps into folders; just place one app on top of another and it'll create a folder.  Press and hold an app to move or delete (press the red x).

swipe up from the bottom and it'll bring up a small control panel.
