Does anyone live in the St. Petersburg area and have horses?  I know there are alot of pro rodeos in Florida but not sure if there is land available for purchase/lease to have horses in that area.  How is the boarding situation?  Thanks for any advice you can give :)

I live a half hour south of there. In my opinion it's very expensive to board, especially for a good place, you can find lower-end places but definitely get what you pay for. Shady things can occur, just didn't notice that kind of thing in Oklahoma where I'm from. There's a lot of land more to the east, parrish, myakka and arcadia have tons of homes with land. That'd be an hour-2 hours away from St. Pete. Property can get pretty expensive compared to other states. Not sure of the areas north of there.

Does it have to be St. Pete?  There may be a few opportunities there to keep your horses but very limited. If you could, you'll do much better just out side of the Tampa area (you would still be very close/convenient to St. Pete) you would have many very good places to choose from for your horses, it's very rural and very horse and barrel racer friendly. Lots of good boarding facilities within minutes of Tampa/St. Pete as well as horse properties for sell.  Barrel races and rodeos all year long, too.  You'll love it here!

Are you coming to St. Pete due to a job there?  Just curious.

Again, if you'll look just outside of Tampa...Thonotassasa, Plant City, Dover, Riverview, the outskirt areas of Tampa you'll still be close to work but there's plenty of rural horse areas.

If you aren't scared of going over a big ol' bridge, you can also look at Parrish, Palmetto, Apollo Beach, Ruskin, etc.
