Yesterday afternoon I was getting ready for my nephews birthday party and all of a sudden didn't feel well but continued to do my hair...then all of a sudden I lost all color in my face, I started shaking, feeling dizzy so I went to go open the door to get my SO because I thought I was going to pass out and next thin I know everything went black for a second and it was a good thing I was holding onto the door or I think I would have fell down. I went and laid down and my SO brought me some water and I felt better after a few minutes but it was so scary!!

Any ideas on why that might have happened?

Blood sugar drop or blood pressure drop. Had you eaten? Were you dehydrated?

Blood sugar drop or blood pressure drop. Had you eaten? Were you dehydrated?

what t4l said. happens to me all the time and usually revolves around what I've eaten and when, how much water I have or haven't been drinking.

We were at Walmart and this happened to our cashier. His face went white and he could not process anything and then fainted. Later found out he is diabetic.

Hmmm I had just eaten a sandwich not long before that. My SO thinks I was dehydrated. Idk I've never had anything like that happen before!

I called my sister in law and asked her if it could have been my sugar because she is diabetic and works for a diabetic dr. She said it's possible.

Low blood sugar. Happens to me a couple times a year. Pack some candy in your purse so when you start to feel shaky/gittery then eat a couple pieces and sit down. If someone is around when it happens, make sure you tell them because it tends to freak people out when you pass out and then they are prepared in case they need to help you.

I agree that you probably had low blood sugar. What had you eaten that afternoon?

Orthostatic hypotension

Vasovagal response

Cardiovascular event

Are three other avenues to check out. I would suggest speaking to a medical physician about it

It was about 1 when I was getting ready. I ate some toast for breakfast and a turkey sandwich for lunch

Dehydration will do it for sure.  A turkey sandwich shouldn't precede a hypoglycemic event, but it's still a possibility.  My son is a reactive hypoglycemic and will crash if he eats carbs/sugar without enough protein/fat/fiber to balance it.

I had that happen to me when I was dehydrated. Called the doctor and said I had heat exhaustion. Said it was probably because I was out in the sun for too long and didn't drink enough.

This happens to me when my iron gets really low... Im not sure about the states, but here in Canada I can donate blood every 3 months and before they take my blood they check my hemoglobin (iron) and a lot of the time it's too low. I take an iron supplement, and do my best to eat lots of red meat, put spinach and blueberries in my smoothies, and always try to have a "high iron" snack between breakfast and lunch, and lunch and supper. If I feel that I am about to pass out I sit down and put my head between my knees.

If my memory serves me you had a thread about eating healthier!?

so while I do agree with blood sugar and dehydrated...so what I have to say plays in with that PLEASE make sure you are actually eating enough FOOD......eating healthy and/or doing so to lose weight DOES NOT mean you starve yourself cause you will do your body damage!

You said all you had ate was toast and a tuna sandwich all morning up till 1...definitely not enough food, I don't care who you are.....balanced functional meals...protein, carbs, fat AND water!!!

If our resident doctor Scott can chime in, his opinion would be more warranted then my little rant....off my soapbox!

I've seen it from dehydration, low blood sugar, low blood pressure (usually from your heart not beating a normal rhythm from out of balance electrolytes.) If I were you I would go have a chit chat with a doctor.

My thoughts are low blood sugar or dehydrated. I've had that happen to me before, and have had both of those cause it. So, I always carry candy with me for low blood sugar, and I try to make sure I have plenty to drink...that may be all you need to do. :

Have your doctor to check you for a condition called Neurocardiogenic syncope..it is pretty common and from the symptoms you described that is what you may have..and dr can order a tilt table test to determine if you have this or not.....hope this helps and good luck

I know this might sound totally bizarre, but get your dr to check your ears at your appt. I have always been really affected by not eating on time and get super shaky and faint feeling but this past spring/summer I started having very bizarre episodes; extreme headaches, numbness on the one side of my face, hot sweats, blurry vision and waking up in the morning and couldn't get my balance and faint feeling. I went to the dr after about two months of this and it becoming more frequent. Totally was expecting the worst (brain tumour). Turns out my ears were so plugged that it was putting pressure on nerves, affecting blood flow and my equilibrium. The feeling of relief in my head when he flushed my ears was insane, I just about passed out from the relief of pressure!! I know sounds gross but apparently it can really affect your head when you have issues with your ears.
