anyone here spray tan or have you before?

we're going to Jamaica soon and I'm painfully pale. Does it sweat off? how long does it last? do I need to worry about wearing anything white?

I did a spray tan and I really liked it. I'm pale too. You need to go to a reptuable place. Don't wear anything you don't want stained during the process, but it does wash out if it's cotton. I had to wait like 16 hours or something before I was allowed to take a shower. When I did, it looks like it washes all off, but it's just the overspray. It didn't smear or smudge on me. I really liked it. It lasted less than 2 weeks.

If you plan on going in the water, laying. or walking on the beach it will fade/exfoliate off pretty quickly. I managed a tanning salon for 2 yrs, spray tanned fairly regularly the first year I was there. Not much at all the second year. I recommended that people not shower, sweat or swim for at least 6-8 or until the following morning.

Once you've got it, you don't have any additional UV protection, so don't expect to not burn thru it. Also don't "loofah" or use a scrub cloth when you shower. I usually just soaped up with the plams of my hands and only used my scrub cloth when I wanted to get the last of it off me. With some care it can last 10 days but the norm seemed to be 5-7 for most people.

I've gotten them! I'm not totally sure how they would last in the ocean or anything but exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate before hand! Don't wear any deodorant before you get one because it'll turn your armpits green! Lol. And don't wear any lotion, etc. Also, if you're going to get one definitely invest in a professional spray tanner and not the spray tan booths. I came out orange and splotchy my first time in a booth but after that, I had someone personally do them and I love it. Also, look into who you get it done by. I had one woman do mine and apparently she was supposed to be good and it was just ok, kind of orange. My favorite girl has a spray tanning business and travels around the U.S. and other places for body building competitions, pageants, etc. I haven't had one since I've done a pageant or prom but she was always really awesome. So anywaaaays, do your homework and don't get it done by just anyone ya know? I'm horribly pale too so I know your pain! Have fun on your vacation

I've had a spray tan a couple of times. I've gone to the same place and same lady each time.

Don't use a machine. Go to someone who will come in there and spray you by hand. Yes, it's a little awkward standing there naked or half-naked in front of someone, but if you want your tan to look good, that is what you have to do. Ask around. Find who is reputable and does a good job. The lady I use, if you so much as have one tiny streak on your body that she can see, she will make you remove it all and start over. She will not turn out a bad tan job.

The key to making it last long is to MOISTURIZE like crazy for 1 week before your tan. You literally need to apply a good lotion (Vit E and Aloe ... no oils) 3 to 5 times every day. You also need to EXFOLIATE once a day for 1 week before you tan.

The day of your appointment, do NOT apply any lotion for 5+ hours before your tan. NO MAKEUP.

The longer you can wait to shower after you get your tan, the better. I always try to wait almost 24 hours. That means you cannot wash your hands or get wet in any way. (Do not get sweaty.) Whatever the water touches, that will wash off the tanning agent in that place and you'll be left with a spot. You also want to wear really loose clothing (no bra ... or a loose sports bra) because anywhere that your clothes rub it will rub off the tanning agent and leave a spot. Once you shower for the first time, then it's not a big deal. But be very careful until you do shower.

Remember to use ton of LOTION to maintain your tan. That is what makes it last longer. My tans have all lasted well over a week, because I prepare my skin with moisture.

Be careful on the beach. Sand will exfoliate off the skin cells that have the tan. This also means you do NOT exfoliate. And be very gentle with your loofa in the shower, and rub only very lightly.

Once you shower, you can wear whatever you want. One of the times I got a spray tan was for my wedding and there was nothing on my white wedding dress at the end of the night.

All these things sound like a ton of work, but it's really not that bad. Especially for a great looking tan.

As someone already said, make sure you wear sunscreen in Jamaica! Have fun!

I personally would tan in a bed Over a spray tan. The spray tan will come off way too soon if you plan on being in the ocean, beach, etc abd when it comes off you look like a leper

Have you tried the Sally Beauty Salon Bronze one? I saw it list on a best self tanner list and was thinking about trying it. I do not tan very well so I have to go with a spray tan if I want any color.

I love spray tans! If I could do them all the time I would! I've only ever used the VersaSpa machine to get one and it's worked well. All these ladies have given the advice I was going to give - just wanted to say go for it and have fun on your vacation!

No, I haven't tried it. Is it aerosol? This has been my favorite so far...

I wonder if we spray tan at the same place R_Beau?? I love it. I spray tanned before we went to Jamaica a couple months ago and it actually lasted about 10 days:) and then I could see the "splottchy" look when it starts to wear off. I moisturized like crazy before and I think thats the key.

What part of Jamaica are you going to?? Have you been before??

What type of lotion do you use? I use the tubes from Bath and Body Works but I don't think those are the kind to use before/after a spray tan. I've used the ones at the drug store but they stink and are so watery so I always go back to B&BW

I personally use the St. Ive's Oatmeal and Shea Butter. And Load. It. On. before and after a spray tan.

I don't like lotions that have tons of scents like Bath&Body.

WHhen I exfoliate before a spray tan, I use their exfoliation stuff too with some sort of exfoliating glove.

I use Loreal sublime bronze :)  If you're comfortable doing it yourself at home, you can buy it just about anywhere (walmart, walgreens, etc), and its not super expensive!   It says on the can to spray yourself from arm's length which is important because, like any spray tan probably, it'll get splotchy if you get too close!  I stand in the shower (I'm afraid to get the spray on my carpet! lol) and spray myself everyday for a few days then once I notice that I'm tanner I go to every other day then every 3, etc.  I'd buy 2 cans off the bat to start off if you're not tan at all and I'd maybe do like everyother day so it doesn't look fake!  I have olive skin so I never get super pale, but I definitely need some help from time to time.
