Location: Somewhere around here | For the past few years I have not ridden my horses with reins that have clips on the end. Yes, they are very convenient but to me it seems like a lot of "movement/clashing" will go on in the horses mouth if they have a bit in. Am I the only one who thinks like this? Am I wrong and it doesn't really affect the horse very much? |

Location: Riding Crackhead. | I use them on all my reins because I switch to different headstalls on different horses on different days. I have a buddy that freaks out about my snaps, says they'll break. I told her that I've seen her have her head up her butt and drop her reins which are laced on each side to the bit and her horse can get its leg through the reins and have a hell of a wreck. I'd rather take the chance of my snap breaking. |

I personally don't use clips on my reins for the same reason, so it's not just you

One of my friends doesn't use snaps, but during a run last fall one side of her reins came unlaced during a run. Luckily she has a nice horse and he kept on trucking. Actually ran her fastest time of the weekend with reins on one side. LOL |

He will bobble his nose up and down when riding him, seems like the
Vibration irritated him,
I take them off he is fine, no nose bobbing. Thought it
Was his teeth, had him check, they were fine. Eventually
Figured it out when my trainer at the time put split
Reins on him with no clips. Then the little light bulb went off!

yep. me too. Trigger snaps are dangerous. I have no clue why manufacturers put them on reins. Use the good stuff or nothing at all |

I just use the little trigger snaps that are light. I don't like big heavy clips.

I realize 100% that there is a chance they could break or fail. However, in 25+ years of riding, it has never happened. (Of course, that doesn't mean it can't.) |

Location: NC | I use bolt snaps. I won't ever use trigger snaps. I've seen them break way too many times. Hubby has broken his fair share of trigger snaps.
If I had a horse that was bothered by snaps I wouldn't use them. But myself, like others, would waste way too much time switching out reins on headstalls. I have one pair of split reins I LOVE. And each horse has their own headstall. I just like having bolt snaps. |

| I run in simple snaps and honestly, I have rode in them for 10 years and never have they came off. If they do, my horse probably wouldn't even notice since I barely touch her anyways (till we go to stop at least. Haha)
I'm willing to risk it for the convenience of them, since I am always changing bridles and bits around at races in quick tack changes. |

| How about clips on headstalls? I have one set that has it but I dont use it very often. Do you think clips on the headstall affects the bit? |

I don't like the clips on headstalls, to me they make the bit hang weird.. |

I use these sometimes but wrap it with rubber bands so they will not come undone and to unclip you just have to press harder to overcome the rubberband tension. |

| I always use clips, the nice ones. A girl I ran barrels with had her horse fall and as the mare was getting up her leg went through the reins. Thank god the horse was a saint and just stood there with it's leg stuck out and up in front of it while the girl got off and unclipped the reins. Will never ride without them.
