my horse popped an abcess at the hair line. It is healing but is still somewhat of an open wound. Would it be a bad idea to use poultice on my horse and then for the poultice to wash over over this opening?

It worked well to pull out the nasty pus and whatnot. I don't see why you couldn't use it.
