Location: Kansas | The Eighty Dollar Champion was great. It's about show jumping but is an underdog story and I finished it in tears. The people sitting near me on the airplane must have thought I was a little off! lol. |

I personally like "King of the Wind" and it made me wanna RUN my horse all the time growing up!
"The Horse Whisperer" is also a great book. There is so much more detail than the movie about the outcome and rehab of the horse.
"For Love of a Horse" is a great story.
Also - I'm not sure your taste but, the author Dick Francis, was a fabulous British jockey before retiring to write murder/mystery novels that revolve around the horse racing industry and the tracks. I really enjoy them!  |

Location: Texas | If your in to eventing at all riding lessons, and Flying Changes are both fantastic. Both are written by Sara Gruen. Same girl who wrote water for elephants. Scorpio Races is one of my recent favorites. Mixes fantasy ( about the capaill uisce ( mythical water horse) and horses. Tami Hoag has written some great mysteries set in FL during the season. They are well written as well. |

Location: Tornado Alley | My Friend Flicka and the other books in this series. They are not just for kids. In fact my english teacher in Jr High had a fit because I was reading it! That was back in the stone ages . Do read them. They made me fall in love with Wyoming |

Location: Arizona | I LOVED Marguerite Henry when I was a kid, she has written a plethora of horse books. They may be targeted toward a younger crowd but would be a good quick read and they're well written. |

Location: East Tennessee but who knows?! | Tell Cotten has some really good westerns. Stephanie Berget is a romance writer that has futuritied in the past and she writes some western romance. Natalie Keller Reinert wrote a book about a girls summer horse camp that received some great reviews. She's a horse person. Jadie Jones is another riding instructor that writes. Laura Crum writes horse related fiction. Also, Half Broke Horses by Jeanette Walls. My book, Lost Betrayal, won't be out until next month. Its a story about a girl who loses her best horse when a tornado hits her horse ranch and the journey they both take afterwards. The genre is romance, and she does fall for th cowboy that rescues her after the storm, but the story is a lot biger than just those 2 hooking up.EDITED TO ADD-- Periodically I post snippets of my books on my author Facebook page so readers can get an idea of the book. I'm listed as "F.J. Thomas Author" and I have a personal page by the same name too.

and another one about a little bay, basically he went through a lot of abuse and finally was owned by a boy that show jumped and well you get the idea..but i have searched and came up empty for a title....
another one i just remember..linda craig and the palomino mystery (very good) written by ann sheldon

Location: lexington KY | Bred to Win by William Kinsolving, it focuses on the racing industry, but I thought the story line was amazing. It is one of my all time favorite books.
Dark Horse by Tami Hoag is a great mystery.
True Colors, by Kristin Hannah is another great one.
If you are not on goodreads, you should check it out. I love being able to go back and see what I have read and review recommendations from other people. |

| I love the Black Stallion series. The Man who Listens to Horses is also good. It's the biography of Monty Roberts. It's definitely sad in some spots, but an awesome book. |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | Joan Wolf is a horse person, excellent writer, and some of her books have horse themes. All of them have well written parts about horses, since she primarily writes historical fiction. "White Horses" and "High Meadow" are 2 where horses are a main theme. Then she wrote a prehistoric trilogy and the 3rd one is called "Horsemasters". |

| I read "Riding Lessons" by Sara Gruen and liked it, but I haven't read the 2nd one.
I also read "At Risk" by Kit Ehrman, it was ok. The protaganist is a male barn manager, it is a murder/mystery. I think it is a series, I may go back and read more.
Most of the Rita Mae Brown "Ms. Murphy" books include horses. It is about 2 cats and a Corgi who help their owner solve mysteries. The animals can all talk to each other, and can understand the humans, but the humans can't understand them. I really like the earlier ones - the more recent ones not so much.
There is also a young adult series called "Pony Whisperer" by Janet Rising. I bookmarked it to read to my daughters when they get a little older. |

| "Secretariat: The Making of a Champion" by William Nack, - One of THE BEST books about anything that I have ever read. Even if you're not a horse fan, it is SO well written.
"Seabiscuit" by Laura Hillenbran. ~ Again, like Wm Nack, her writing style is wonderful...

I'm currently reading "Wink: The Incredible Life and Epic Journey Of Jimmy Winkfield" about a great black jockey that was banned from America, and his racing career in Europe during the late 1800 into the early 1900's. |

| The Blue Roan Child by Jamieson Findlay. It's a young adult, fantasy. I didn't think I'd like it, but I really did. A girl, who is a groom for the king is the only one who can work with a blue roan mare. The mare gives birth to twins, and the foals are taken away. She steals the mare and treks off to find them.
