What does it mean when a horse has a localized swelling just below the knee between the cannon bone and tendons on the outside of the leg only? It isn't watery, just sort of firm and about 2-3 inches long. It isn't swollen on the front, back, or inside, just the outside there. We're snowed in, so no vet. He had an accident caused by another horse running under him and he sat back on his rope at the trailer, reared, got a leg over the rope and then got it loose. He doesn't limp. Only this little swelling. It's not really hot either but after 2 days it's still there. Just a bruise I hope?

Fractured splint, fractured cannon bone can cause a lump. If they are sore she you push on it that would be my bet. I have had horses with fractured cannon bones that weren't lame

Yall are giving me bad news ! Yes, it's a little sore to touch, but not to where he jerks the leg up, I can just tell he flinches a little. OK, Stall rest and vet trip as soon as it thaws.... I was afraid it was bad. I'm too excited about him for it to just be a bruise. Of course if I didn't like him it would be nothing ;)
