Location: Spokompton, Wa | I am asking for a friend. She has a colt that is coming 2 (well, 2) and is still in a 69 blanket. He's pretty leggy and his butt is about to her chin. She's 5'7". Withers are lower. I bet he's maybe close to or right around 14hh at the withers. The string test shows he is supposed to be about 15.2. Can he still get that tall? I am just wondering if any other people had smaller horses at 2 that grew to be bigger. She's worried he will stay small. lol
Thanks for any input/stories! :) |

whats the string test?
There are a couple ways, but we used a tape measure and measured from the middle of his knee to the coronet band. it Said a 15 + inches. So it equaled out to 15.3 hands. it's supposed to be fairly accurate so I hear! You can also take a string and measure from the elbow to the coronet, then take that length and turn the string over and measure from the elbow to the end of the string. That is supposed to give you where their withers will end up. (It goes something like that. lol I may not be 100% accurate) And I probably didn't explain it well. |

Good to know! She will be thrilled. Thanks! I've not been around many babies so I had no idea what to tell her. |

We did this with my mare that is now 11 and it was pretty accurate even though at the time, even though she was a really big yearling, we looked at where the string was telling us she'd end up and we poo poo'd it, LOL!!! |

Location: MD | I had one come in middle of his 4 year old year who hadn't been fed (probably ever in his life) well and he was a runt. All of 14.2 at that point. He is now 7 years old and 15.2 HH. There's plenty of possibility for your friend's colt to grow that much. |
