I need to get back to eating better and using my treadmill and losing some weight, but I'm having a serious issue with lacking energy.  I don't want any miracle diets, weight loss supplements, etc... I know I will feel better naturally once I get going, but I need a kickstart on the energy end.  It's winter, tax season in our accounting firm, I never see the sun, we have a foot of snow..I've got the blues.  I leave the offfice and have no energy.. and I sat at a desk all day!  Vitamins, b12, anything that has been successful for anyone?

I complained to my doctor once about being tired.  They ran my blood work and said my B12 was very low.  They put me on B12 shots once a day for a week, then once a week for a month, then monthly. It was sort of a gradual improvement.  I remember though on several occasions I complained to a friend in college about being tired and she would look at me and ask if I was due for my shot, and everytime I would think about it I was due.

Then last year I started feeling tired again and figured i needed to get 12 shots again but when they ran my blood they said B12 was fine but my Vitamin D was really low.  Gave me a prescription strength Vitamin D and I think it helped but hard to say because not to long after I got pregnant which made me extremely tired as I guess pregnancy will do...  hahaha

I'm a firm believer you are what you eat. You eat junk you feel like junk.

What is working for me is eating as clean as possible. I gave up soda last September (don't miss it at all), down to 1 cup of coffee in the morning, and have been drinking a minimum of half my body weight in water. I try not to eat a lot of bread or pasta, but lots of fresh, raw and steamed veggies and fruit.  ETA: I also don't eat a lot of red meat, rather grilled chicken and fish:) Not too much dairy because I'm lactose intolerant.

I also take 5000 IU of Vita D3, a multi vitamin, probiotics, and a supplement that helps me........ go #2 and retain less water.

I also got a gym membership and yesterday was my first day at the gym in about 10 years. I felt like an uncoordinated jungle monkey, but I didn't fall off the treadmill!!LOL It actually felt really good to just walk/jog/powerwalk, even if it was for only 45 minutes. I felt so much better afterwards.

I'm right there with ya Sista. When I get done with dinner and chores at night my butt doesn't move from my recliner until it's time to go to bed. And sometimes about mid day it is all I can do to keep my eyes open.

The think that has helped me this winter was Tanning.  Yes, gasp, it's bad for you, yada, yada.  BUT I actually feel good.  I think it has something to do with the Vit. D production, just like the sun.  I feel good when the sun is out and I feel just like that after tanning.
I'm not a freak of super brown skin by any means.  I found a tanning card when I cleaned out my purse and decided to use it.
I'm also eating better because I joined Weight Watchers, so I'm sure that helps.

I thought I was the only one...I can sit & think about all the things I need/want to do & hours later I still haven't moved. Only taking care of my animals gets me moving & then it's right back to the couch/chair/bed.

I have committed to a personal trainer for one month; 3X a week starting Monday morning. I'm not a morning person so I'm second-guessing my choice for choosing morning sessions but if it doesn't work I can always go to evening. I'm hoping it will give me more energy, getting back into shape, or at least boost my self-esteem until I can start riding again.

ETA: I have also started tanning again, it makes me feel good & I feel more energetic (if only slightly) after I've tanned.

Nateracer: I'm going to also second the tanning!! I am VERY VERY careful at how much I go. I have no urge to be a brown prune or get skin cancer. Never more than 15 minutes at a time. And usually only once or twice a week. But that Vitamin D, I think, helps alot especially in the gloomy months.

This week I have finally made myself get back on track. No sweets. Watch the carb intake. And lots of fruits and veggies. With lots of water. And getting to the gym on most days. WOW! I forgot what it feels like to have energy! Its amazing!

I take quite a few different vitamins and supplements for various reasons, but two I take are both iron (am not anemic, but close to it) and Vit B complex.

When I eat like garbage, I just want to take a nap.

I feel your pain - I'm an accountant as well and have been working a lot of extra hours (not a tax firm but I have monthly closes and projections, etc)! This year I started taking a preworkout supplement....when I take it...I have no choice but to go to the gym because it gives you SO much energy you don't know what to do with it all!  I HATE running (can usually only last for about 5-7 straight minutes of pure running on the treadmill) and when I take the preworkout, I can run at least double of that (and I'm not in very good shape yet). I'm talking at least 5 1/2 - 6 1/2 mph on the treadmill not jogging.
I also take a supplement during the day to curb my appetite (still get hungry but don't munch on everything in sight while sitting at the desk for 9 hours). It's got a crazy amount of B12 to give you energy and it makes you hot (it's a thermogenic so it burns fat).
Have noticed great results from using these and working out/eating better...I had lost about 7 pounds in 2 weeks and I was only 132 to start with.
I also love a good tan after the workout (have a PF membership so might as well!). Just relaxes me and makes me feel GOOD! But I don't go everytime...just every once in awhile anywhere from 7-15 minutes.

Thanks everybody.. I know it's mostly the winter gloom, but had forgotten about tanning!  I usually do go when I need the missed sunshine and feel a little better.  I know the eating better will help too, it's just a vicious cycle because when I'm tired I eat whatever because I don't care and on and on it goes.

OH! And of course....drink LOTS AND LOTS of water....keeps you full and if you drink a big glass about 15-20 minutes before a meal it'll make you eat a lot less...and we all know what that means....WEIGHT LOSS

The weird thing is, exercise MAKES energy.  You would think it would make you tired, but the more I move, the more awake I am at the end of the day/evening.  Sitting around makes me tired.  It's probably related to boredom, but if I work out, sitting around (watching tv or relaxing at night) doesn't turn into nap/bed time on the couch.

Tanning used to make me SLEEPY (before it gave me skin cancer). I know you all don't want to hear it but who wants to look like a leather couch at 30 anyway?

I take vit B-12 and I SWEAR by getting 8.0 hours' of sleep a night - since I get up at 3:30, this means I AM in bed by 7:30. I don't get sick (knock on wood), NEARLY as much as I did when I only got 6.0 hours' of sleep.

What about a uv light for the office. Have it on a bit everyday? Tanning does help when done responsibly. Along with eating lots of organic veggies and fruits for me.

Eta: stress makes me tired and I can only imagine how stressful tax season can be. Maybe go for a half hour or more message with relaxing oils.

I am the World's Worst Eatter!!!  I do not like about 90% of the food everyone is supposed to eat, and I just flat out refuse to eat it.  I started drinking Shake-ology about 2 months ago and notice a huge difference in my energy level and the way I feel.  Best of all, I noticed my skin has even cleared up!  It is supposed to be super healthy, not a diet/weight loss shake, though it does help.  You might give it a try.

I got one of those happy light things for winter and I think it really does help. I've had it a couple years and use it on a nearly daily basis and I feel like it helps boost my mood. Even if I don't have exactly more energy I generally just feel better about life and then I take that good mood to the gym (also try to eat healthy). After about a week of happy light time and eating better/light-medium workouts I start feeling like I have more energy.

I always get the winter blues too. but this year I have also been tanning lightly and I put uv lights in my home. I feel ALOT better. (I always use a good sun screen when tanning so I do not get super dark, as I am very dark anyway, and it still helps a lot)

Look up S.A.D.S. syndrome.

Never eat any carbs and sugar without adding waaaay more protein.....use the liquid sublingual B1 drops.....walk every day on purpose for at least 15 minutes....and I take a gurana supplement every day at 3 pm (slump time for me), plus, I bought one of those vibration plate machines and 10 minutes on that will wake and rev you up!....

P.S......I know it's hard but give up all sugary and diet drinks....all I have drank for over 12 years is tea and water....Big difference!...(edited) forgot to mention...stay well hydrated...carry water with you all the time....

Cut out all the junk. I also like to eat the white from 4 hard boiled eggs every morning, and 4 more at 3:00. Makes a difference. The less processed your foods, the better you will feel. Give it a couple weeks.

What always helps me is scheduling some kind of event that I know will be a motivator. I'm going to Cancun tomorrow (yes!) and it's motivated me to keep myself in check through the holidays and my busy time at work (I'm a controller so we have year-end close, the audit, and then immediately following is the January close). The good thing about being an accountant is getting to work out at lunch (nobody sees me in the afternoon) and I've wanted to skip the gym so bad to get an extra hour of work in but I knew I'd be in a bikini soon so it motivated me. I vowed I'd have killer legs to take on my trip! I took this picture yesterday (got a spray tan today ;)).

I would consider taking at least 15 minutes from your lunch to go for a walk, the work will be there when you get back AND I guarantee it will help you with being more focused on your job rather then being in a slight zombie state!

I have had on and off bouts of fatigue/low energy on and off for years. I have had bloodwork drawn and tested numerous times all of which always came back showing nothing wrong so here's what I have found out on my own. I think drinking a gallon of water per day helps my energy more than anything. Its important to space it out over the whole day too...not just chug a lot at a time. I think that's important because I read somewhere(not 100% sure its true) that your body can only absorb like 16 ounces per hour of water and the rest is just passed on through. After I read that and started spreading my water intake out over the whole day it has helped my energy a lot and makes you feel much less hungry. Exercise helps too of course and keeping busy so that you are not bored. B12 and Vitamin D helps too...I get mine from Silk Almond Milk instead of a pill.

WYOTurn-n-Burn - 2014-02-06 9:17 AM I'm a firm believer you are what you eat.

Good for you Ronda Roo - sounds like you've got it figured out!

And an occasional "Prairie Fire" every now and then will boost the metabolism too!

haha oh gross!

I think I need to make a trip to Tennessee Miss Gina and we can tip those Prairie Fires back together like old times. My metabolism can use a good boost!!!
