I'm planning on breeding my ex-barrel horse (Ripped the muscle between her shoulder blade) to Frenchmans Fly. Has anyone had any foals from him and if so what were they like? Are they free runners? Push style? and how are their temperaments? My mare is foundation bred standing about 15.3 and throws the red/bay gene and I'm tired of red and bay horses so I'd like a stud who can throw something black, dunskin, or even grulla. She's a free runner and all of her foals are too. They've placed in multiple Rodeos in the 1D around here but could go further and even they only stand around 15.1 themselves their free runners as well. She throws the height and most the good conformation from the sire to her foals. So whatever the sire looks like so will the foal. The only thing she mainly reproduces is the speed, heart and try in them which I really like. And this year I really want to breed her to a barrel stud with good bloodlines. My dad wants to breed her to a Halter stud and although he's a big chestnut sorrel snowflake stud standing around 16 hands and 1400 pounds that's not what I'm looking for. I don't really need size. I'd like something that has good racing or barrel bloodlines with a little size and a black gene. I've attached a pic, sorry for it being small but this was back in 2012 at our 4-H district horse show and it's the only one I have right now on the computer of her.

I don't have any experience with Frenchman Fly's foals, other than they look awesome and I'm planning to get one sometime in the next couple of years. Just wanted to comment on the genes - if your mare has had bays and sorrels/chestnuts before she probably carries the black gene and the red gene. Just remember color is not everything. Check out this website to give you an idea of your chances of different colors http://www.horsetesting.com/ccalculator1.asp

I know color is not everything, that it don't take a rainbow colored horse to barrel race and win. But, When all you got is red and bays I get a little tired of them and I see my beautiful mare just standing in the pasture wanting to run when the others are running it makes me sad. I've been doing acupuncture with her and it's really helped her muscle but her muscle between her shoulder blade and the one side of her chest is literally rock hard! And I've tried hand walking her just getting it to soften and a little bit of riding but nothing seems to work even DMSO. So that's why I'm wanting to breed her at least 2 more times But I'd like a horse with color like a grulla or a dunskin like she is. I know it don't matter in barrel racing about color but it's nice. And I've been to the coat color calculator and she has a 50% chance of grullo, 25% dunskin, and 25% bay.
