Location: Georgia | So very sorry to hear this! I bred my first mare last year and I worry about this everyday I wake up at this point. I would be devestated! Hope everything is fine with your mare. It can be rough on them too to lose one.

same experience I had - mare in foal to Bully Bullion - aborted at about 9 months - was 100% at check 2 weeks prior - never got to see foal - coyotes drug it off we guessed - older mare but never had trouble before - has since had the Dash Ta Fame foal in my avatar and in due to foal a French Too Fame baby in April - have to keep on progesterone shots throughout pregnancy - sorry for your loss of the foal, I took it VERY hard when we lost ours - try to stay positive that the mare is okay and you can try again |

Location: Finally horseback again.... | Thank you all for your good thoughts and prayers. Vet said it is just one of those things. It is breeding... She checked out fine and we flushed her and gave oxytocin just to make sure. We will recheck her in three weeks. Luckily my neighbors saw the coyotes out there and went and sat with her. They had already taken most of the baby but we did see the head and shoulders ... so I know what it looked like. It was her third foal, she has never had any issue and is a great momma. The stallion owner is really great and will give me a rebreed, but it is so disheartening...
It was really weird though, the vet himself had a 200k mare abort the same day.
