why is my 2 year old mounting my mare?!?! He was cut as a yearling, both balls were snipped so he doesn't haven't anything hidden. This morning he was attempting to mount my mare, his "shame" wasn't hanging out but he was still trying. She turned around and wapped him really good in the head a few times. Why would my colt be doing this? My mare isn't in heat, I've checked and re checked her. He is out with my 9 year old and my coming yearling filly

I had a gelding that was cut around 6 months. The next time he saw a mare he was 4. He mounted her until she whooped it out of him.

My gelding is 17.... he will mount a willing mare

he was gelded as a yearling I believe (I got him as a 5 yo). Whatever age, it was before they issued his papers. Mine will only do it if the mare keeps backing up to him... and even then only occasionally and only if they are turned out together alone. He won't do it usually if he knows someone is watching.

so good luck. lol

I think I'm going to have to dust off the BB gun for this one cause I caught him doing it again this morning!

We used to have a gelding who would mount whoever was in heat and then other geldings who'd just mount mares sometimes but not a lot like the other gelding- if the mare doesnt agree she will let him know- Make sure its not a pellet gun our dog got shot with a pellet and had to have it surgically removed I'm leary of the bb/pellet guns now lol
