Location: Dearing, GA | I need recommendations for a good moisturizer for my face. In the winter, my face gets so dry that I always look like I'm peeling (like you would with a sunburn). I use Bare Minerals finishing powder on top of a liquid concealer, and halfway through the day they look so caked on and flaky it's disgusting. Any suggestions? |

Location: Southwest Minnesota | I use Oil of Olay with SPF 15 in it year round for the daytime. At night I wash my face with just water on a washcloth, as hot as I can stand it and no soap of any kind. Then I use a heavier night cream from Oil of Olay for sensitive skin. I always put lip stuff on at night too. My favorite is in a little blue tube from Bath & Body works called My Favorite Night Balm from C.O. Bigelow. I am well over 40, and tend to have very dry lizard like skin and this all works very well for me. |

| Josie Maran Argan Oil, don't be afraid because it says "oil". Best thing I have ever tried for my skin and I am over 60. Only trouble I have is very very puffy under my eyes which I think is allergy related. |

Is there any way you can switch foundation/concealers? Just be sure to avoid things that have high quantities of alcohol. If my skin is constantly red and chaffed on my face I will moisturizer with a light coat of Vaseline, but if you're clog prone that will introduce a whole new problem. So take that suggestion with a grain of salt! |

Location: Phoenix | For a cheap remedy I really like the intensive healing by St. Ives; it's got a red accent label. if you want something little more expensive I really like Murad... the purple one it's the age rejuvenating one, it's pretty heavy so it's good to wear at night. Then I like the Murad Essential C with the orange label for daytime use because it has 25 SPF.
But it I had ashy skin like you. It was so gross. The Intensive healing by St. Ives just happened to be a stocking stuffer and I used it on my face and it didn't clog my pores and it took care of the flaky skin. I think the face was you use also makes a difference. I use the Murad gel cleansers and they are SO gentle. That, plus my Clairsonic and the Murad lotion and there's zero dry spots. Kind of high maintenance but I have very delicate dry skin so I'm going to do what works.

I use the same C.O. Bigelow lip balm at night, too! As for my face, I really Hope in a Jar from Philosophy during the winter. It's seems more expensive because it's 8 oz. but isn't really much more expensive than anything you can buy a drugstore. |

I use a product line called Dermalogica, love it but it's spendy. |

| I have an extreme problem this year with dry skin all over. I thought I was going to have to go to the dermatologist. For face I use Boots No. 7 Night cream and Day cream. Not too expensive and my skin is so soft and never chaps. For body--I asked at Ulta and the manager recommended Ahava. It is great too. It took about a week to see improvement but my skin is SO much better. It actually feels like skin again. It was so dry and chapped that it hurt to get in the shower.
Edited to add that I order from drugstore.com

I also have oily skin and since its a gel it never makes me break out. I'd ask for a sample @ the clinique counter and atleast try it on your hand |

I started using the moisture surge a few months ago and it really has helped my peeling dry skin. I also started to use their seven day scrub a few times a week and i think the combo is great for super dry skin. |

Clinique is all about exfoliation. The Clarifying lotion exfoliates, used with 7 day scrub once or twice a week works great. I love the Turnaround Cream too. I could go on and on. LOL I don't care how expensive of the moisturizer is it can't soak through dead skin. Get rid of it. Exfoliate, then moisturize and watch your skin glow. |

Location: OK | I've had several people say the mineral based foundation was a little hard on their skin. Mary Kay makes a heavy moisturizer for extra dry skin that I use at night. They also make a tinted lighter moisturizer with SPF, so it's like putting on base but it's sheer. There are different colors to match any skin tone. If you put powder over it it looks good. Maybe something to try during the day. |

I was a Clinique consultant 20 years ago and fell in love with the products. The girls that work those counters are sent away for training at least once or twice a year. For my age and the amount of sun and harsh winter my skin has seen I think my skin looks excellent especially when I compare it to friends that are the same age and live in the same conditions. |

Go and have a consult, it's amazing what they know, at least I hope you get a good consultant. I started with the 3 step, cleanser, toner and lotion and have since turned to the foaming face wash, different number toner and gel but I have oily skin, my point is that as you age, have babies etc, your skin changes so don't be afraid to make some changes as your body does. I always recommend clinique-I'm an addict. |

Location: OK | On that subject, instead of using a harsh abrasive scrub or pad, the brushes that they sell that rotate that everybody is buying right now, what they basically are is a baby brush with those extra soft bristles on a rotating head. In a pinch, you might use a baby brush, the ones for newborns, and exfoliate with that.
I have the rotating brush, and I LOVE it....and, you can wash it and actually get it CLEAN unlike those pads. |

Along with their BB Cream.
I usually use the moisturizer at night, and during the day I use the BB cream, with just a touch of powder to set it. |

Using the hottest water you can may actually be contributing to your problem.
Your skin is naturally oily (obviously) and by taking long, hot showers/washing your face will melt the oils right off your skin - effectively drying it out. Another thing that's going to help is *GASP* drinking water! Healthy skin starts from the inside out. If taking short, colder showers and drinking water doesn't help, I also like cocunut oil. |

Good advice and also I would recommend the 7 Day Scrub. Its a great and safe exfoliator. A lot of scrubs are made from crushed apricot seeds that have sharp edges and can damage your skin. Clinique uses round beads that exfoliate without causing damage. Just my 2 cents worth. |

This is exactly where my dry spots are. It's awful. I will try this after my shower now. |

| I just started using L'occitane and have seen amazing results. I also have dry skin and I have tried everything from Mary Kay, Olay, Clinique, Lancôme, and estee lauder and they all would burn my face. I started using the L'occitane two weeks ago and the dry bumps and peeling look is gone. It lasts all day on my face and I have also noticed my skin tone has evened out. I use the Ultra Rich Face Cream and some serum I put on before it that opens the pores up but I'll have to look and see what it is called I can't remember. It is expensive but it works and I don't have to use a whole lot. I only have to apply once compared to others. |
