if you were going to receive jewelry from someone (not wedding stuff - everything else) what would be your thoughts on receiving a $150-200 necklace with CZs in it vs a $2k necklace with the real stuff?
edited - or if its CZs, just rather it be something else....

| Depends on the woman, if she likes high end Jewlery then go with the diamonds, if she won't wear diamonds then go with something different not cz.
Sorry to say but there are many women who would think you were being cheap buying the knock off.
You can always go with birth stones, ammolite, ruby, as these are rare but people won't go crazy if they loose or damage one |

Ditto. I have diamonds and they sit in a safe with all my other good jewellery. I have one necklace that I wear a lot that is real diamonds but they are small chips and it was not super expensive ($250). The rest comes out maybe once a year. |

Now I won't lie, I appreciate the set we did end up buying though it was pricey. But personally, other then the wedding band set, I would much rather have the money spent on more necessary items. But then I also think it's inappropriate for anybody to buy me something like that other then my husband. |

| Go with a Russian Brilliant they are just lab grown diamonds and completely flawless, do not fade etc. My wedding ring is a RB and big lol if it were a real diamond it probably would have cost around $10k vs the $400 we paid for it and not a single person can tell it's not a real diamond. I had to take it to a jeweler to get it resized, when I came back he said he hoped I had insurance on it because that was a really impressive and rare diamond, the look on his face when I told him it was just a RB was priceless! |

I do prefer the colored stones though. I think they are very eye catching.. Besides my wedding set I have a pair of real small diamond studs that I don't remember when I wore them last. Probably a year ago. I guess it depends on the person but if it were me I'd want the cheap stuff....actually I'd rather have tack or something horsey but I'm weird that way. |

I agree......I don't think I would wear diamonds because I have already lost over half my jewlery....I'd be afraid to lose that ring/necklace if it had real diamonds in it! |

| If you pay full retail, there is a lot of markup in diamonds but precious stones can appreciate in value. Buying real diamonds can actually be an asset for your estate.

Location: Opelousas, LA | My husband bought me a beautiful diamond ring when we got engaged and I can't remember the last time I wore it. I just wear the plain gold wedding band.
He doesn't even wear his wedding band. He almost lost his finger when a horse jerked his foot away while he was driving a nail and the nail slid up under his ring.
I am still glad to have the nice diamond ring but anything else expensive would be a waste of money. That is cool about the RB fake diamond, as long as the stone is set nicely I can never tell the difference.

I don't really like "knock off" jewelry, but the stuff in that link is very pretty, and I wouldn't mind having CZ in it. I was thinking more along the lines of solitaire stones, but as an accent to a decorative piece, I think you'd be fine. |

I swore I would never want to wear anything expensive around my horses or anything. We have been married five years. The wedding set was somewhere around 3800 which for us is expensive. I've never once worried about it since and never take it off :) But we did pick out a low profile set so it never caught hung on stuff. |

If I sleep in my wedding band accidentally, my finger swells, which makes the ring feel stuck and I have a panic attack. I've actually injured myself pulling a ring off in a blind panic in the middle of the night. |

I dont' know, mine doesn't do that. It was awkward at first when I started wearing it since I had never worn one, but now I can't stand not having it on. Everybody is different though. I know a lot of ppl that plain just can't wear them, or can't stand to have them on. |

Yes those low profile are a must! Had a very big round solitaire, set high, didn't work. Got caught up in everything! Ended up getting a emerald cut with channel set side stones and it worked out nice. |

I've had my ring on since 2006 and have never taken it off. The only time it's off is when I take it in to get cleaned. I wear it around the horses, showering, working in the yard, putting lotion on, everything. Mine just doesn't come off. I do have to watch it in the winter when my hands get cold because my rings get loose. |

I don't get it either. I take mine off ALL the time. I used to wear it to bed, but my fingers swell too, and it's hard to get off in the mornings. I also take it off to wash my hands, because I can't stand my finger being wet under my ring, and my skin will get irritated if stays wet in that spot.
I also leave it in the house if I'm doing dirty work outside. I'm just more comfortable knowing it won't accidentally come off or get banged up.

| With my first husband I had the big earings, ring, necklace the whole thing. And when I took them and hocked them after my divorce I only got about a quarter what he paid for them. And those big diamonds dang sure didn't help my marriage at all!!
Now with my second husband I don't own a single diamond. My ring is just a sterling silver band and I love it!! As far as I'm concerned I wouldn't care if I ever have another diamond. Like someone else said I would rather get a new prospect or pay something off!! I do like nice jewelry but as far as I'm concerned some bob berg or just something unique would b what I would love more!! That plus I really just think it the thought that counts more than anything else!! |

Exactly.....I tell hubby, if I can't ride it, tow it, or drive it, you better not be spending a bunch of money on it.
I have a CZ solitare stone that I bought a nice gold chain to wear instead of the cheap one that came with it, probably total of about $150 spent on it. I get more compliments on it, and I've had it for over 15 years and it hasn't clouded at all. And, as other's have said, I don't have to worry constantly when I wear it.

Location: North Dakota | I love my diamonds. I never take them off except when afraid to get them full of gunk like when painting, making burgers, etc. Or when working out with weights. Otherwise I sleep, shower, ride, etc. with them on. I have my wedding set and then I have a half eternity ring for my right hand middle finger (this years Vday present that I got early). I guess me personally I would rather receive real diamonds as a gift because they are something special. I have lots of CZs or other diamond looking crystals but it is the diamonds that I got from my husband that I absolutely love and never take off. They don't have to cost an arm and a leg. In fact my eternity ring cost around $250 after the discounts but the original price was around $400. I love that ring!! It is dainty but just gorgeous. |

My wedding ring is the only jewelry that I wear everyday but I am like so many others that I don't wear it constantly. I have it insured so I don't worry about it when I ride but I rarely wear it at home. As soon as I come in the door it comes off of my hand. BTW, I have ugly "cowgirl" hands so I am not a big fan of rings because they usually look pitiful on my hands. I always have such admiration for women with beautiful hands. Mine are genetically ugly...thanks mom and grandma! lol Oh well, there are worse things in the world! |

I would much rather have a CZ and have him surprise me with a new saddle that cost $2-3k than fancy jewelry. I don't see the point in expensive jewelry, really. Other than maybe turquoise. But I've also gotten nice replica turquoise for $40 or less. |
