Location: The stix of Utah | I am going to be selling my reining saddle in the next couple of weeks and I thought online would be the best way to market it. However, I have never sold a saddle before that needed to be shipped. Is there a way to calculate shipping to a zip code before you finalize the price or is there a general amount to just build in to the sale price? Is so, how much? The same goes for a saddle pad. Any input would be greatly appreciated. |

| I just shipped one 3/4ths of the way across the country. UPS wanted $97 to ship it. I must have had the deer in the headlights look when I was given that price. Saddle weighed 28 pounds bare bones - no flank cinch, no latigo, no cinch, and no breast collar. I bought the box from UPS and took it to the post office. With the cost of the box, insurance, and shipping through USPS it was $57 total. Whew! |

Location: The stix of Utah | Wow! Good to know the difference in the prices from UPS and USPS. I'll be sure to get it insured. So if I add $50 for shipping that should be a good safe number, I would guess? |

The USPS is the cheapest for me to ship saddles. You need the saddle to fit snug in the box, try to fit your saddle in the smallest box you can get, the bigger the box the more it cost to ship the saddle. When I sell a saddle I just ask 55.00 for the shipping and if it gos over that amount then I pay out of my pocket, but remember you have to buy the box at most places, most of the time I lose money on the shipping. For some reason it cost me more to ship a saddle out of Texas. |

If you use USPS DON"T use parcel post!!! There is NO tracking and it is the last thing that gets shipped everyday. Use Priority |

Good to know. I think this will be my plan. I don't mind if I have to cover some of the shipping but I don't want to be paying out the nose either! Thanks for the info! |

Did not go to the UPS hub, went to the UPS ship store. I figured it'd be a little bit more but not as much as it was. The UPS hub is 40 minutes round trip and it was easier to just go to the post office. I got a tracking number with insurance. It shipped out Wednesday and is due to arrive this coming Wednesday. :) |

Location: North Dakota | a saddle pad will cost between $15-$20 to ship. Just wrap it in a garbage bag and put tape all the way around it so it can't rip |
