Well, he told me "order whatever camera you want, I want to get you one for Valentines day but I can never remember all the letters/numbers and crap" lol. So I got a Canon Rebel T3i for my first DSLR, and I ordered a 75-300 Canon lens(Canon EF 75-300 mm F/4.0-5.6 III Lens) after about 3 hours of googling and researching for action shots. It should arrive Thursday and I cant wait! I intend to use it for taking pictures of the dogs, outdoor horse shows, and for my small photography "business" I am working on(I say "business" because usually I end up doing them as a favor or birthday gift, ect).

Any tips are greatly appreciated! And if you have any examples of what you have shot with your Rebels feel free to share them! I love looking at pics. Thanks!

There are a lot of great little tips on pinterest. Here is my board where I have pinned some things http://www.pinterest.com/fabulousboots/photography/

Also, just play with it as much as you can. A lot of it will come to you as you play!

Great choice.  If you are going to do a lot of low light or action shots, get yourself a 50mm f/1.8 lens.  It will only run you about $125 and it takes great pictures.

Hey there, the first thing I will say is go buy the book for it.  I have a Canon EOS 60D DSLR myself, and the book was invaluable.  I got a book specifically for my camera at Barnes and Noble for 25 bucks.  Just sit down with the book and just read away with the camera in your hand.  the book I got starts you from a rank beginner, which is good, so yu get to know it from the ground up.  Next piece of advice is just play with it and get used to it.  it's digital so if a picture offends, delete and try

Link for the book is at the top of the post.

I have a cannon rebel T3. I LOVE mine. I use mine for taking pictures of dogs, horses and I've done a few senior portraits. I've had it for a year, and there's still so much to learn! lol Photo editing software is a must too, I use Photoshop Elements 12. I also took a class in Portrait Photography through a Vo-Tech. I would like to take another one. Its alot of hands on, you take your camera with you and you learn so much. Here are some of my favorites I've shot throughout the year

Youre going to have a blast!!!  I have the T2i that Ive had the 18-55mm and 55-250mm lenses ....and am upgrading to the 70D and the 24-105 L series lens ... The lens is as much as the camera is ! YIKES ... Ive wanted to do this for 5 years and finally told myself if I sold X amount of colts, I was going to this year ... and we did.   So I have it on order - but not here yet - as excited as you are!

Here's a few Ive taken with my T2i -- none of these were editted besides cropped

and editted

wow sorry for getting a little out of control ... You will LOVE your camera!! It is addicting!

My daughter shot some with a rebel but bought herself a sony she has the same size lense you do and it works great for outside shots of the horses and even lots of bird pictures. She can use it indoors like at arenas if it is daytime otherwise not enough light. She is getting a new 70 mm x 200 for her barrel pictures with f2.8 so she can pull more light indoors. Go take lots of picutres and play with the settings and speed . She got the camera in late Aug and as of yesterday she has taken over 13,000 pictures with it. She has a facebook page if you want to see some it is Got Moxie Photography , she loves to get new likes if you have a page she would like yours as well. Have fun, I dont' take pictures but I spend a fair amount of time driving her around looking for things to take pictures of.

Cutnrun- I liked her page when you first posted about it, I LOVE those Hawk pictures she posted! What kind of editing software is she using? my page is Sarah Vittur Photography, my husband and I drive around and find things for me to photograph too, its so fun. We will stop somewhere and grab some drinks and food and just drive until dark.

Thanks for the like I will send her to like your page as well. She loves checking out every ones pictures . She just started using Coral paint pro they have a 30 day free trial if you want to check it out. She likes it better than the photo shop elements she had. Yesterday we had about 80 elk we were trying to get pictures of ! We both went and liked your page. You have some really great pictures !

Thank you! I have been using my moms fujifilm finepix, everyone I have talked to said I am really going to love my new camera. The lady I had bought mine from on eBay messaged me and said she dropped it going into the post office She issued me a full refund though and my husband and I found out they have brand new ones at walmart for just about $25 more than I was going to pay for that one so hes stopping on his way home from work and grabbing it for me.

How exciting!!  I use my 75-300 all the time, especially for animals.  They never do funny stuff when you're close to them.  :)  Like everybody is saying, take your camera everywhere you go.  You never know when you're going to need it!

I use a 60D, but I also have a T2i.  I mostly use my 75-300 or my 28-135 wide angle lens, but I do have a 70-200 f/2.8 that I use for rodeos and wrestling.  My FB page is 307 Photography.  :)
