Have any of you ever had experience with cataracts in your horses? My barrel horse is going blind in one eye and we are pretty sure it is a cataract. Just wondering what your experiences are, if anyone has done the surgery, etc.
Have you checked for moon blindness? I have heard really good things about silver lining herbs bright eyes. I ordered some for my gelding. I think it is around $60 for a bag which last 60 days. I figured it was worth trying..

One of mine has one. I bought him 3 years ago and when I would work him on the barrels it seemed like he wasn't seeing out 2nd and 3rd barrels (left eye) so I started working him to the left first, it wasn't pretty but it was better than 2 bad barrels.
I took him into the vet and he said he had the starting of one but he wasn't to concerned with it at that point. He said if I am running indoors just to make sure his eyes adjust. I have since switched him back to the right first and he is working really well outside where this is more light. Inside we still need some work. I guess if mine continues to get worse I will be looking into different options but he is doing pretty well right now.
We also had a horse that was blind in one eye, not do to cataracts. He wasn't a barrel horse but I messed with him when I was younger and would take him to the left first since that was his bad eye. I think with these you have to come up with some ques that you give at specific times and stick with them consistenly for a horse to work good on the pattern.
