I had a vet give me Previcox for an older gelding. She told me to give him 1 whole pill at every feeding (morning and night). I've had other people tell me they give their horse 1/3 or 1/4 a pill and a half or whole on race day. I'm wanting to buy some for another horse but unsure of how much to give her. I wanted to add it was the size pill with the dachshund on the bottle that she gave me for the older horse. The horse I have now is prone to sore hocks, arthritis, and has an old ligament injury.
that is a pretty high dose..I had a retiree on 1 pill 2x a day for a bit until it started not being enough..I went ahead and put him down not long after.. he had alot of old injuries...i have used 1/4 of a pill on running horses before..started about 3 days prior to the show to let it build in the system...
My gelding is on 1/4 pill of 227mg previcox. Sounds like your vet gave you the 57mg pills if you are giving 1 whole pill. Because if you do the math 1/4 of 227 is 56.75mg. So if you get the same size pills 57mg your horse will take 1 whole pill. The reason we use the bigger mg and 1/4 them is because it's cheaper. Hope this helps. BTW I work for a vet and my girlfriend is a vet.

yes it depends on the MG of the pills...
the 227 MG pills are about the size of a penny, and thick. they are easily broken into 4 pieces.
I didnt come across that problem except with the old guy..i just think he was going downhill so fast and i was using a bandaid on a gushing wound..ya know? I havent heard of any issues yet..i know they can stay on it much longer than bute and the whole stomach lining issue isnt really a factor.
