I don't need more chickens.... I don't need more chickens... I don't need more chickens lol.
lol Congrats! I put my incubators up and won't be hatching this year with the baby coming and all... and I am going to have to try really really hard not to buy any from the feed store since every time I go in they give me discounts so I will take what they have left. lol

So you post online that you will not be hatching any this year and they see it. Bet they hatch extra and lay in wait for you to show up!

They have gotten smart, I will give them that. They carry more of the type I like (bantams) when before they mostly just carried large fowl, and ducks (ducks that aren't the plain white pekins)... then they harrass me, and give me "bulk discounts" until I give in. THEN when I buy 20 or so chickens and a hand full of ducks they tell me they are going to tell my husband! lol Hubby doesn't care, but he used to work for them and I think he expressed his dislike of me having so many chickens on a regular basis.

Rhode Island Reds and Barred Rock. We already have Barred Rocks and they lay really well and we heard the reds do too. Plus they look cool when they get big.

I love them when they're babies! All cute and warm in our basement! I'll have to post pictures of all of them. But when they get big I only like them bc I get eggs from them lol. They get ugly and I can't cuddle them anymore!

You should read a very old book called "The Egg and I" about a city gal who marrys a country boy and they raise chickens. The wife is writing the book and about the fifth chapter is titled I Learn to Hate Even Baby Chickens. That's the part where she learns one blood spot and the other chicks all pick on the unlucky wounded one.
Actually the book is hilarious and the movie probably made in the 40's or 50's is wonderful. Fred McMurray and Claudette Colbert....that old.

Can too! lol (These girls are full grown, just miniature)
ETA: Granted, some breeds like being handled more then others. This is my favorite breed (Serama), even though they are not practical by any means. The biggest one (top pic) doesn't even weigh a pound and her eggs are about the size of a quarter... maybe a tiny bit bigger. They are so much fun though. I think every chicken owner should have at least one as a pet lol.
