Location: Somewhere between S@% stirrer and Saint | I am coming out of a so-called 3 year retirement from racing triathlons and I have been training since October and starting to see results, LOL I don't get on the scale very often but I can feel the tire is melting away, LOL
I am trying to eat well but I am a muncher. Candy is my weakness. I am strong but the speed is starting to come back. Working out about 16-17 hours a week.
Around the end of March I will race a small race for the heck of it.
Hard work and eating right will pay off. |

Location: Montana | Nope a slip up doesn't make you a failure! I couldn't agree more with Dream Chaser. Quite honestly, I'm not on a diet...however I am a terrible grazer, so I have been cutting back on my grazing. I permit myself on Sunday to eat pretty much whatever I want, and it has worked for me so far! My workout (planking, pushups, situps, and walking) is just trying to stay in shape. But do set realistic goals, and permit yourself some "rewards" otherwise it will seem like never ending toil. And keep up the good work!!! |

| Great post!! I lost almost 50 pounds 4 years ago. I didn't diet but changed how I eat and I lost the weight slowly. I would lose 5 or 10 punds and stay there a few weeks and let my body adjust. I do not have alot of self discipline, if it is in the house I will eat it so I did not buy anything bad. Once or twice a month if I wanted some sugar I would go this really good bakery and buy one cupcake or one slice a cake- bad to do but soo good and this way I would not over do it. I do not beat myself up now if I indulge every now and then, but it sure makes me feel bad physically when I do my body is so used to healthy eating. |

Wow...50 pounds is awesome! I had to change my eating habits too and with 2 teens and a hubby in the house they eat stuff not so healthy and I have to try and be tough. Its weird but if I eat too much or something unhealthy I literally get sick to my stomach. My body is used to healthier food choices. |

It really helps me because I usually work out on Thursday and then can't make it back to the gym until Monday and if I wait until Tuesday I will probably just wait until Wednesday or take the entire week off.
Keep up the good work, everyone!!! |

| I needed this after losing 20 lbs last year i really started going to the gym... I now go to the gym 6 days a week and run 3 miles a day plus do weights. I have started to gain a few lbs back (5lbs) but I know it's muscle. It gets me down sometimes but I know I look the best I ever have. |

| This is a great post...thanks for starting it. I struggle with this daily...I am my own worst enemy. I am terrible about having an "all or nothing" mentality and that's the worst possible mentality toward working out and losing weight! If I work out every day for a week I feel awesome and make really good food choices but if I miss a few days I feel like I've lost my groove and might as well eat a whole king sized York peppermint patty! I need to focus on eating right and exercising ONE day at a time and on days I mess up I need to forget about it right then instead of carrying on that negativity the next day, and the next, and the next! |

I also have started working out since my activity level is ZERO since I had to go on full care for my horses. (and hence I have gained 15 pounds and my eating habits went to crap).
Its hard for me to stay motivated to work out. I would much rather be outside burning calories then at the gym. But I figure if I keep at it, sooner or later I am bound to see some results..... |

Location: North Dakota | Thank you for posting this. After many years of not working out I've faithfully worked out for two weeks now. After my first week the scale actually increased by 7 lbs which made me question my diet/my routine/everything really.
I weighed this morning, my one time per week that I'm allowed, and the scale only dropped 1.5 lbs. I'm taking it, although I wish it were more because I really busted my behind in the gym. I guess I was wanting bigger results. I think I need to be more patient!LOL
I'm excited to work my butt off this week again and see what the scale says next week:)
I should add I'm also hypothyroid so I sometimes feel like my body is working against me and its a little disheartening. I've researched some foods to eat to help jumpstart the thyroid again so I'm going to give it a whirl:)
Any comments or tips would be very much appreciated and thanks again for posting this. |

Location: where the wind blows | I'm really needing quick meal and snack ideas. That's where I have trouble. I come in from riding or whatever and have nothing prepared. My main go to snack is apples or grapes with peanut butter. I find it pretty filling but need more than that. I'm also trying to cut back on my wheat intake some. But food ideas is where I struggle. Especially the I'm starved and have nothing prepared. Help. :)
i will be riding 3 horses as often as I can and I bought Richard Simmons dancing to the oldies video to try as I hate walking in the wide open country in winter. Plus I do like to dance so thought I'd try it.
Anyway seriously need to drop 20lbs. Had a very stressful spring, summer and fall last year and that equalled a big weight gain. I refuse to buy new cloths. So loosing is only option. Any tips welcome. Thanks dream chaser for the post. |

I am just starting with the foods so I'll let ya know if I see a difference.
I do know from my research that exercise is VERY good for your thyroid and we should be cutting out gluten, caffeine, and soy based foods and EATING FULL FAT!!! (in moderation of course). This is going to be hard for me because I have the mind set eating fat makes you fatter!LOL Healthy fats are suppose to help our thyroids function better:)
Google it..you'll find all sorts of things.

Location: Alberta | Snacks & Prepping Meals (my take on it all) The first step is what do you enjoy eating? Put into your house what you know you will eat, doesn't mean having the whole produce section in your fridge! Snacks I like!!!!!! ORGANIC PEANUT BUTTER (LOVE IT) I put it on rice cakes, apples, bananas, in smoothies, pretty much anywhere I can get away with having it....even just off the spoon. HARD BOILED EGGS (but I always have to remind myself to BOIL SOME) I find them to be a great snack, but to me protein consumption is always a MUST with my workouts APPLE & CHEESE- now anyone on a Paleo this wont work (the cheese), but ever since I was a kid this combo has been yummy to me. NUTS- Always are a great source of fats & protiens, BUT very high in caloric value, so you need to moderate the portion on these. I enjoy cashews & almonds the most. SNAP PEAS - great for just a quick grab snack, as you stare into the fridge thinking "im hungry" CARROTS - my go to snack lately SMOOTHIES- Two aspects people need to watch when using smoothies as a meal or even snack (mine are snacks or partial of a meal) is the SUGAR content!!!!! Greek yogurts and even the fruit, which fruit is good but dont over do it, throw veggies in there!!! My go to smoothie is 1 banana, handful of spinach, scoop of vanilla protein powder and 1 cup of almond milk. Yogurt & Oats- Paleo wont work with the oats part, but yogurt alone is a good source of protein & fat BUT as I mentioned WATCH YOUR SUGAR!!!!! Plain yogurt ( I know boring) but add fruit and your set for better taste! I do 1/2 cup gluten free oats, 1/2 cup yogurt and 1/2 cup chocolate protein powder
I just cooked my lunch took me 10 mintues, and I am having chicken, wild rice & green beans.......I buy frozen veggies so easy to just grab and throw in fry pan with some coconut oil, I always try to have chicken cooked and ready in the fridge so it's just matter of warming up & my rice I buy the 1 cup versions that 1 minute in microwave and done.
Oh and also I do NOT eat salads for every meal, which MOST people think you need to do to lose weight....I enjoy real food at each meal just watch my portions and always make sure I have my carbs, fats & proteins in each meal! |

I'm going to make the banana bread next week. I need to get coconut flour. ~~Paleo Pumpkin Bread IMG_2884 Originally published in Elena’s Pantry I doubled the ingredients as Elena’s quantities were for a petite loaf tin. I didn’t have any stevia so I used the equivalent of Raw Coconut Crystals. I also switched allspice for nutmeg. OH… and I added raisins! The outcome = SUPER delicious! My favorite paleo baked item so far, in my opinion Smile Ingredients: 2 cup blanched almond flour 1/2 teaspoon sea salt 1 teaspoon baking soda 2 tablespoon cinnamon 2 teaspoon allspice 1 teaspoon cloves 1 cup pumpkin 4 tablespoons honey ¼ teaspoon Raw Coconut Crystals 6 eggs 1 cup organic raisins Directions: 1.In a food processor combine almond flour, salt, baking soda and spices 2.Add pumpkin, honey, raw coconut crystals and eggs and pulse for 2 minutes 3.Add raisins 4.Scoop batter into a loaf pan 5.Bake at 350° for 55 minutes 6.Cool for 1 hour 7.Serve
I use walnuts or pecans instead of raisins. I really like the chocolate chip cookies.

I buy my coconut oil at Costco. You can also get it at a Health Food Store.
As far as replacing coconut...I'm not for sure. I use Almond Flour and haven't tried Coconut Flour. |

| I just started week 6 of a 10 week jump start workout program. Kickboxing 3x's a week and resistance band training 3x's a week. I LOVE it. At first getting up at 4:30 sucked, but now I wake up then on the weekends when I don't have to. The program also includes healthy eating- not a diet, but changing the way you eat and looking at food as fuel. We are to eat 6 meals a day, meal-snack-meal-snack-meal-snack. We are to try to aim for protein the size of our palm and carbs the size of our fist at each meal, and make sure each snack also has a carb and a protein.
I needed this post because I kind of fell off the food bandwagon last week with all you can eat wing night and Valentine's day dinner - but worth it! Back on the bandwagon now!
A couple things to add:
PEANUT BUTTER - SUPER easy to make. I have little Kitchenaid Food Chopper (not processor, this one is like $50 at Kohls) and I throw my peanuts in there and run them until they are fine, then add a little peanut oil (we use roasted peanuts, so if you're using raw the natural oil content is higher and you may be able to skip this step) and honey and continue pureeing until the consistency is where I want it. I make a batch and portion it out into small containers so I just grab a container and an apple in the morning and I have my snack for the day.
I pre-chop all veggies like broccoli and cauliflower the day we go grocery shopping, otherwise it'll sit in the fridge and go bad because I'm "so busy".
I also pre portion more expensive proteins and snacks like shrimp and almonds to make sure I'm not over eating. The price tag is a little shocking at first, but when you look at the correct portion size and work it out, they're pretty affordable.
Overnight oats are my favorite breakfast. Oats, greek yogurt, almond milk, raisins, nuts, etc all mixed up overnight in the fridge. It's so delicious and creamy the next morning and it's ready to go.
Grains like couscous, quinoa, and barley are great.
Some blogs that I love for new ideas:
http://www.chocolatecoveredkatie.com - she speaks to my sweet tooth. The black bean brownies and zucchini brownies are the real deal man, the real deal.
http://www.trebleinthekitchen.com - she was a year behind me in school, super yummy clean recipes. The salmon stuffed peppers are awesome and I think I'm going to try the kale pesto this weekend with homemade whole wheat pasta (also very easy).
I love helping people find healthy food to eat that is GOOD. My boyfriend likes to eat well, but isn't on the super clean bandwagon by any means - and he eats everything I cook, so I must be doing something right. |

| This Post is great. But I have a question to anybody else out there. I have diverticulitis so therefore cannot eat grains, seeds, nuts. Anyone else have this? If so, what do you eat? I am just getting over a "flare-up" as I indulged in some popcorn. Finding more and more stuff that I just cannot eat. |

Good luck to everyone on getting healthier and achieving their goals! |

I'm really needing quick meal and snack ideas.
Oh my gosh! Me too!!
My SO and I make up snack baggies on Sunday afternoons ... we'll chop carrots, celery, and apples ... then throw in some grapes or whatever else we have. Then stick 'em in bags and stuff in the fridge so that when the cravings hit we grab a baggie to munch and go! We also always have peanut butter and granola bars on hand!
We also try to plan our main evening meals for the week on Sundays. We are on a tight food budget and this helps us when we hit the grocery store and later in the week when we're actually making the food!

| Sandok - 2014-02-18 8:40 AM This Post is great.
Google paleo and you will find more recipees then you can imagine. Facebook also has a zillion great paleo pages full of info. We don't eat grains, but do eat nuts- everything else is meats, vegetables, fruits, and eggs. |

Location: Gainesville, TX | Good to see. My husband I are back on our low carb diet (after a break for Valentine's day weekend). Got to stay motivated. I'm under 200 again anyway in the last month. Goal is 135 so I can really enjoy my two year old without breaking her back. |

Location: Jersey Girl | OhMax - 2014-02-18 7:51 AM I just started week 6 of a 10 week jump start workout program. A couple things to add: PEANUT BUTTER - SUPER easy to make. I have little Kitchenaid Food Chopper (not processor, this one is like $50 at Kohls ) and I throw my peanuts in there and run them until they are fine, then add a little peanut oil (we use roasted peanuts, so if you're using raw the natural oil content is higher and you may be able to skip this step ) and honey and continue pureeing until the consistency is where I want it. Some blogs that I love for new ideas: http://www.chocolatecoveredkatie.com - she speaks to my sweet tooth. The black bean brownies and zucchini brownies are the real deal man, the real deal. http://www.trebleinthekitchen.com - she was a year behind me in school, super yummy clean recipes. The salmon stuffed peppers are awesome and I think I'm going to try the kale pesto this weekend with homemade whole wheat pasta (also very easy ). I love helping people find healthy food to eat that is GOOD. My boyfriend likes to eat well, but isn't on the super clean bandwagon by any means - and he eats everything I cook, so I must be doing something right.

Location: Blissfully happy Giants fan!!! | I think that it is awesome so many people are trying to get healthy!!
I lost about 40 pounds a year or so ago and I never want to see those pounds come back! I did a diet change myself. I committed to tracking everything I ate for 30 days and that was a big wake up call. I don't do that anymore but I have kept everything off.
About a month ago I started going to the gym. I did this because I found I had lost my lung capacity running a horse and I wanted it back. So I get up at 5am, feed all of the animals and then drive to the gym (less than 5 minutes away). This works for me because my one horse has to get fed by herself so the time at the gym and then coming home and getting ready for work gives her enough time to eat everything I put out for her. Hubby works a late night shift so even on the weekends I can do this and not miss anything. And I bring my workout gear when I am traveling for work. Nowadays all hotels have a gym. I try for 6 days a week but sometimes it is 4 or 5. Depends on my schedule.
I don't do a whole lot-mostly because I am really going for lung capacity. I run-not jog-for 15 minutes. 2.5 minutes to warm up on the front side, 2.5 minutes to cool off and catch my breath on the back side. Right at the end I amp up that treadmill and sprint-literally-for as long as I can. Usually a minute or so. I have the treadmill at an incline-not a big one but enough-and then I make sure I am at least fully stretching out my legs running. Usually I start at a slow run but still a run and then work my way to a sprint every few minutes.
After that I do about 5-7 minutes worth of ab work, 20 pushups, and I go home. I love when my abs hurt.
As for eating, I found that usually when I was getting hunger pains, I was mistaking it for being thirsty. My rule of thumb is if I feel like I am hungry, I drink water first. If it doesn't go away then I know it is true hunger.
I can't eat multiple small meals a day. My intestines can't digest it. I can't digest nuts well either and dairy works a number on me. I will eat something small in the morning on my way to work (one rice cake with natural peanut butter, which I think is all out nasty so I put honey on it), and I have a thing of coffee first thing. That usually lasts me till lunch. If it doesn't I have pickles. Pickles are my friend!!!! No nutritional value-it is a 0 calorie/fat/sugar/etc food so you can have as many as you want. Most of the time 3 snack kosher dills will do it.
I fill up at lunch. Today I had brussell sprouts, mushrooms, small chicken feta cheese, and a green machine Naked drink. And chocolate. I am a chocolate a-holic and have never been able to tame it so I don't try anymore.
Rarely do I need anything more than this for the day. I am so busy when I leave work that I usually et everything done and then crash at about 9:30-10pm. So it isn't like I am missing out on eating and my intestines need all of the time it can to digest (this is because of an emergency surgery a long time ago).
I drink a lot of water and flavored water. Water is your very best friend.
As for cooking. I hate to cook!!! SO, I always keep a bag of frozen vegetables on hand. The mixed kind. And canned tuna. I can heat the veggies in the microwave, drain the tuna, and whalla-a meal. I do that a lot. I also like the canned salmon-much better than I thought it would be.
Shrimp is also a fave of mine-low calorie. My acupuncturist told me I need more fish and while shrimp isn't a fish it still does the trick.
I have bought the sweet potatoes that are individually wrapped and heated those for an easy snack.
If I am going to be home all week (which lately hasn't been the case), I TRY to cook some stuff on sundays. I can get 4 boneless skinless chicken creasts baked in 20 minutes with less than a minute prep and they are yummy. 20 minutes and I have onions, brussel sprouts, mushrooms cooked up. I LOVE pecan oil. It is the healthiest oil out there-that is a true fact. I use it all of the time.
Notice I don't eat a whole lot of fruits. Too sugary for me and they throw me off. I will eat bananas every once in a while but what I need from a banana I can usually get in an avocado. And I love cherry tomatoes. Oh and I get the individual rice cups too (side note, brown rice is basically the same as white rice. Wanna know the difference? When the rice gets to the processor, they have machines that shave off the outside brown part. Seriously.)
I still have binge days. If my husband gets up early enough on the weekends sometimes we will go out to eat or will when he has his days off. I don't go all salad-no-dressing-only. I live it up!!! Steak. Potatoes. Nasty fattening appetizer. Cheesecake (I did that on sunday). But I know I don't do it a lot so it is ok. My theory is if I am doing things irght 80% of the week, I am doing good.

Location: On a paint horse... | LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this post!! Eating good, exercising, we are all works in progress!! It is a lifelong 'battle' for lack of a better word. My hubby and I lost 80 pounds 3-1/2 years ago and have kept it off. I became a FREE Health Coach to help others be successful. (pm me for details).
Even though I lost the weight, and I ride 6 days a week, Im really not in great shape so I recently joined the gym, signed up for the Biggest Thriver contest...and it is kicking my a$$. But what a wonderful accomplished feeling I have when I get home each day (when I can move LOL!). You have to find YOUR personal motivation, no one can do it for you and if you arent ready, i can tell you you wont stick to it and be succesful :( Kudos to each and every one of you that are making the right choices in your lives. |

Location: North of the 49th Parallel | My legs are sore. Very sore. I hate the gym (I really do) but I got my ass in it when my surgeon told me I needed knee surgery number 3. I came out of my past two surgeries NOT good so I didn't want that to happen again. Last night I did 6 miles on the bike, 25 crunches, 50 squats and a minute plank. And then I decided to ride for the third time in six months. OMG. I had no idea how hard it was to lope after that much time off. Good thing my pony and I are in this together. |

I've gotta quit drinking cokes(I'm from TN, lol) too! I've been bloated for months and I can tell the bloat really comes on when I drink too many cokes. And plus, since I only drink diet cokes I worry about what all that aspartame is doing to my body! |
