We had a mare quit sweating a few years ago and tried several remedies to no avail. We wound up breeding her and got a couple very nice babies.

However, we were thinking about getting her up to try again, since some people had said that their horses had started sweating again after foaling.

What are some things you all have done or tried to get a horse to sweat again?

We have a mare that doesn't sweat well and unfortunately she seems to passing that trait along about 25% of the time.

We have tried dark beer and One AC, with out as much success as I would like.  We are going to try the Chioce of Champions product this year, hope it will work.

One AC worked for our mare- took 10 days for her to start sweating.  It was not a full sweat, propably about 70%.  She was up during the day under fans and out at night.  We did not let her get too hot and were able to stil compete on her.   When we traveled out of humid Houston area to dryer climates she would sweat like she was suppose to.

A horse sweat supplement that really works!

During training, a horse’s temperature can increase to 104 degrees or more and if it can’t sweat properly, a condition known as anhidrosis, its performance will be lacking, and it may exhibit hair loss and a dull rough coat. True Sweat helps to manage this condition by helping the horse produce the neurotransmitters Dopamine, Norepinephrine, and Epinerphrine, and thereby producing sweat.

Packaged in a two month supply (500 grams) $80.00

INGREDIENTS:

Zinc - Essential trace element, Zinc, plays important roles in growth and development, the immune response, neurological function and reproduction. Nearly 100 different enzymes depend on Zinc for their ability to catalyze..

Choline -Lipothropic factor and precursor of Betaine, used by the kidneys to maintain water balance, critical for normal membrane structure and function. Used to produce the neurotransmitter Acetylcholine.

Inositol - A fundamental ingredient of cell membranes, necessary for proper function of nerves, brain and muscles. Deficiency of inositol can lead to poor hair condition. Seratonin, a neurotransmitter in the brain that depends upon Inositol to function properly.

Thiamine - One of the B-Vitamins that helps the body convert carbohydrates into energy. Thiamine is essential for the functioning of the heart, muscles and nervous system..
Niacin - One of the B-Vitamins required for cell respiration. NIacin helps in the release of energy and the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Promotes proper circulation healthy skin. Correct functioning of the nervous system and normal secretion of bile and stomach fluids.
Pyridoxine -One of the B-Vitamines necessary for the metabolism of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Pyridoxine assists in the balancing of Sodium and Potassium, essential nutrients of sweat.
Pantothenic Acid - One of the B-Vitamins, a component of Coenzyme A, an essential coenzyme for a variety of reactions that sustain life. Necessary for the synthesis of essential fats, steroid hormones and the neurotransmitter Acetycholine.
Tocopherol - A fat-soluble antioxidant vitamin involved in the metabolism of all cells. It protects Vitamin A and essential fatty acids from oxidation in the body cells and prevents breakdown of body tissues.

tried almost everything listed above One AC, Platinum Refresh, threw my money away on Mega Sweat, and tried some Guiness beer.

the best results we had were when the horse was coming off the Refresh and going onto the beer. only problem was that she was sweating profusely shoulders forward (soaked) and not much at all on the rest of the body

giving a shot of dex every 2-3-4 weeks is our only option at this point due to breathing issues

Don't wait until she stops sweating to start something. I didn't have any luck getting mine to sweat once he already stopped (tried beer, one AC, true sweat, and mega sweat) but I started him on one AC in early march while it was still cool and he kept sweating.

We used these equiwinner patches. Had a mare that would not sweat at all..not a drop. We were a little worried about these but we had tried everything, beer, one AC, but after a few days on the patches she was dripping.

And she still sweats, we haven't had to redo them.

I did one AC and acupuncture and what actually worked for us, was the equine touch that Pam Cantrell did.  I dont know if she still does or not because I am no longer in TX but it worked.

Didn't read all the other posts but this is what Vet suggested with mine, and he litterally was bad....gave him a Shiner Boch Dark Draft beer on his feed twice a day....a whole bottle each time, less the swig my sister would take in the evening feeding....lol.... vet suggested Dark Draft......in less than 10 days to 2 weeks he was completely back to normal.....when I say he was bad....I mean he was real bad....not even doing any exercise at all.....huffing and puffing and had to be kept in shade, fans, and wet down several times a day.....came out of the blue one summer had never had a problem in the past, and has not done it since that year.....maybe 3 summers or so ago.

I heard Dark coffee/cold and gatorade. Gatorade is potassium. Sodium is SALT. A horse requires 2 tablespoons of salt per day. Salt consumption brings the water levels up. With out water being saved in the body no sweat to use.

Even if you find something that does work (and I really hope you do), you still need to be careful about what time of day and conditions that you work her, I realize you can't always control that at shows/rodeos, but exercise in the early morning/ late evening is always best, as well as times with low humidity. Keep her stalled during the day under a fan (and a mister, if possible), and try to rinse her at least a couple times a day in the hottest weather.

Supplements won't completely fix it, but they do help you manage it better...good luck!
