| Current owner says the mare is too hot for the cutting pen, any comments? Looks like alot of Doc Bar on top- tons of energy and athleticism there I think. Maybe too much? Thanks! REYS OF GOLDNSILVER M, QUARTER HORSE, 2009 | |

| If they are too hot for the cutting pen there is a good chance they will be hot for the barrel pen as well. |

Location: Where I am happiest | I'd sure give her a try. The Duel Rey's have a ton of try and great work ethic but they HAVE to have a job. All that Doc Bar will be your best friend with the Duel Rey and you should have plenty of speed. The pedigree on this horse you will have to be a quiet, reassuring rider and the commitment to ride every single day and they take things very litteral.
We have a 5 yr old filly all cow bred with 4x Doc Bar who was started on the pattern just this past July.So 6 months ago now. She was 2nd in the 1D last saturday. |

That would depend on how quiet and methodical the rider is. |

| Too hot could mean a lot of things. Keep in mind they need one that will stop with the cattle, no extra moves or leaking forward. Theres a chance. |

Location: California | I have a mare that is by FWF out of an own daughter of Dual Rey. She was too hot to be a reined cow horse, and she is also too hot for barrels. I have owned her for 3+ years and have yet to have a successful barrel run. She is now 9. When the pressure is on she goes right back to all that old training and there is nothing you can do about it. I have spent countless hours walking the barrels, slow work, basics, etc and after about 2 years we can do it all perfect in the practice pen, but once you haul to a race she knows it. She has so many unecessary "buttons". I can hardly breath on her without her thinking we need to go somewhere. My mare is very sweet and I love her but she has caused me a lot of tears and heartache. If this horse is already too hot for the cutting pen I would be very leary of trying to transition to the barrel pen. Yes you can try doing all the slow wrok, etc, etc, but when the pressure is on they go back to what they learned first. Personally I would pass. |

Not always true. I would take a Dual Rey. Dual Rey Me, was one of the best there is/was. Not many win the NCHA Open back to back, especially after having his eye almost poked out in a trailer accident a few months before the finals. They have a lot of try. My husband's do.
Too hot in the cutting pen, means different things to different trainers. And, remember, they start theirs at 2 so that they can futurity at 3.
Reject cutters can go on and do great things. |

Location: Lost in the swamps | I just started to run an all cow bred horse last year , he get a lil hot at times,
Not bad. But he is super sensitive, any amount of correction
You swear you are killing him. I took me a few months to get him to accept my legs and realize
I didn't have spurs on right when I get on. but partly because
His previous owner raked/abused him with spurs. Super sensitive in the face.
But easy to get along with patience and light hands.
And he never forgets! He's so quick and catty it's taken me some gettin used to.
He almost left me a time or two coming off a barrel.
he has made me realize that I like the one that are
more on the sensitive side.:) |

Not necessarily. My friend bought a horse too hot for cutting and she's made an awesome barrel horse.
TricksterJ - If you don't take that horse I'll certainly be interested. I adore Miss N Cash and Kelly Yates has proven that a Dual Rey can win in the barrel pen. |

| Just having Miss N Cash alone on the pedigree would make me inclined to look at him/her. |

I used to be one of the people that wanted all race breeding. Now I want cow/peformance crossed with the speed.
Last fall I bought an all peformance bred gelding that has been reining trained, if he doesn't work out for me in the show pen he is going on the barrels. My sister, who is a reiner, is under some IMO dumb belief that they can't do both and do both well. |

| Thanks!! I have a grand daughter of Miss N Cash who I really really like, so that's what got me interested in this mare, that and she is broke broke broke. I am going to try her tomorrow, to see how I get along with her. Good point that someone made about her possibly being too broke with too many buttons- and thanks CYA Ranch, I looked up Kelly's Dual Rey's and they sure do make barrel horses. Guess I just have to try her now, and see how she goes! Thanks again for all the responses! :) |

Location: Ainsworth, NE | I own a daughter of REYS DUAL BADGER!!! She won futurity money last year with me. She is all cutting bred though... So to be honest she is QUICK but not fast! here is her pedigree: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/little+dual+badger I wouldn't say she is hot, i would say she suffers from some anxiety issues! But my 7 year old rides her when we go to the pasture and lopes her in the arena. she doesn't run her in the barrels because i'm afraid she would be too quick in her turns and that she would "take off" with her. not a runaway take off, just more of "i know i'm supposed to go right now!" type... Her is a video of her: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rd3JH9VZkog&feature=c4-overview&list=UU6Rwjb9YZW_d3FT4Zk_fXjg |

I won't even look at another with that on the papers for myself. They were athletic, STUBBORN, BRONCY and just NASTY. |

Location: CA | The mare in my avatar is a daughter of TR Dual Rey. She's hotter than a two dollar pistol, but in a good way. She doesn't get flighty or lose her mind. She just gets ready to WORK. She's extremely smart, quick, and a hard turning son of a gun. She turns 5 this year and I bought her as a long 3 yr old. She's always been mature beyond her years with talent to burn. I'd take another! |

Location: Texas | I have an own son of Dual Rey, got him as a 5 year old, reject cutter, he grew a little taller than they wanted, yes he is a little hot but not bad,I patterned him on the barrels and exhibitioned him some then I let my husband take him and he is heeling on him and he is making a wicked heel horse, I usually do this with my young ones it helps a lot with rate and they don't get burnt out on barrels .....I will start taking him to the barrel races this year, he is mature now and and can handle it where he may not have been able to as a 5 yr old, he is very athletic, smart ( was easy to pattern and can really run. this is his breeding http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/two+reys
